Well, it lasted a while but I’m back to wanting a Panda. There’s just something about it.

If it's to be a Panda, I don't think, given the mileage you do, that a Twinair will suit you. I was horrified when I saw how poor the mpg was with that engine. You probably would get away with a diesel given the miles you do (if you can get one). I'm glad I managed to get a new diesel, a bit sad that it's not in a yellow Panda but still loving the comfort of the Mito.

All of those big Citroens have been around long enough for quality control issues to have worked themselves out. You get a heck of a lot of car for the money though do have to put up with more buttons than a nuclear bunker. The less desirable 2.2 is considerably cheaper and pretty much bullet proof. Unlike the same size Renault which has propensity to throw con rods.

The Alfa Brera is another. Buy with care but again a huge amount of car for the money. The 2.4 diesel makes well over 200bhp but clutch and cam belt changes need a small mortgage. The 3.2 V6 petrol auto is silly cheap because of the CO2 tax and fuel consumption but a liquid phase LPG conversion is so easy to do. And - easier still on a V6 with its inlets on the top.

No Twinair, though I do wish I could get an automatic 1.2 or 1.2 4x4 in the new shape.

The PSA / Ford V6 diesel has a lot of known and expensive issues. Same engine as fitted to the Jag S-Type / XJ and Land Rover products.

The advice, certainly with Jaguars, is to get the 3.0 V6 petrol, as the diesel is thirsty and unreliable.

TBH diesels have got too clever. Some are making close to 100bhp per litre which means at diesel revs (read not many), the torque levels have to be very high and everything is stressed to the limit. The midrange punch is great to use but the stresses are highest at those engine speeds. No surprise that thrown conrods happen.
