Hello, can I any help? We are traveling back to UK in our motorhome 2.3 multijet 2009 with DPF fitted as it was bought in Germany. Happily crusing on N7 when the oil light began flashing denoting exhausted oil. The oil and filter changed about 8000 miles ago with correct oil for DPF (C2 5-30w) no problem with oil level, will it get me back to UK and home - about 600 miles?
Thanks,

Neil

It appears that when your MH had its last oil/filter change that the oil change counter was not reset. This is a different counter than the service interval counter and resides in the ECU and I believe has to be reset by the Fiat Examiner system.
The handbook I have says "ENGINE OIL DETERIORATED (MultiJet versions with DPF only) The warning light starts to flash together with a message on the display (for versions/markets, where provided) when the system detects that the engine oil has deteriorated. If the warning light flashes, this does not mean that the vehicle is faulty, but simply informs the driver that it is now necessary to change the engine oil as a result of regular vehicle use. If the oil is not changed, when a second deterioration threshold is reached, the warning light also switches on in the instrument panel and the engine operation is limited to 3000 rpm. If the oil is still not changed, when a third deterioration threshold is reached, the engine is limited to 1500 rpm to avoid damage."
Sorry I do not know the likely mileages between the thresholds but if I were you I would continue my journey.

Thank you for your quick reply and encouraging words! There is no multifunction display on my model so I didn't think it necessary to have the ECU reset. I'll drive gingerly on the way home!

Hi, rayc is correct, the garage did not reset the counter. If left the DPF will clog up so you nned to get it done when you get home. It needs Fiat specific software to dothe reset. Most Fiat dealers won't reset it unless they di the oil change because of liability issues. If you are ner Cambridge I can do it with Multiecuscan for you.

Irrespective of which display you have I think the miles to service and the miles to oil change are the same and part of the MENU. See the attached photo of handbook.
They should both be individually reset after service / oil change.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for the kind offer, unfortunately we live in Cumbria although passing on route on Saturday.
I will need to invest in Multiecuscan software and suitable interface so any advice welcome.
Blown over by response from this forum...thank you all.

If you are coming up the M11 onto the A14 I'm half a mile off the A14. Depending on the time you are coming by I may still be able to do it. Only tkes 5 minutes. If you do your own maintence it's worth getting MES. You can try it for free and it's only 50 euros for the full version. You need an ELM 327 interface (get a "modified" one like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271275445368? I've used this seller) wich is about £17 and a laptop.
send me a PM if you are going by on Saturday.

Hi the instruction book for this year says should never exceed 500km after oil light start flashing when p0521 and p0524 activate dpf won’t regenerate anymore!to save causing any more complications and expense can’t you find some dealer or help to reset on the journey home?

Hello all,
Just a quick update on my flashing oil light problem. Having though there would be no problem doing the journey back home, I was worried by Whine0's post about the 500kl limit. We had stopped at Neufchatel-en-bray overnight and next morning did a short hop to the Fiat professional dealer in Dieppe.
They were very helpful, but would not reset it without a service and they could not fit us in for thee days anyway. They assured me that there would be not problem or damage driving back to the UK and as we didn't have a lot of options, we had to take a chance on it.
Robert G8RPI very kindly reset the oil change counter on our way past the next day and I have just checked the regeneration cycle with my newly acquired Multiecuscan and all is fine.
A big thank you to all who answered my call for help!
