Hi
Help needed!

2010 panda 1.1 eco

Head gasket replaced now wont start, starts and runs fine for short while if fuel poured in manifold, injectors are energised and working but shut off after a short time they can be reenergised by turning off ignition and trying to restart however they will again stop after short time.
Fuel pressure fine..
Wont run at all with crank sensor disconected so i assume that it is working correctly.
Anyone any ideas?
Julian

A good first test would be a compression test, should be over 200 psi

How did you test the fuel pressure

After it cuts out do you have to pour more fuel in before it restarts

Is the pump running continuously while cranking

Or is it just priming once at ignition on

Hi
Thanks for response.
Will check compression later.
The injectors inject a good powerful jet of fuel for the short time they work which is only around three to five seconds, they can be restarted for another three to five by cycling the ignition switch, one thing i have noticed is the fuel gauge registers correctly at ignition on, however after cranking for 3 to 5 secs it goes to zero.
Yes you do need to add more fuel to restart last around 15 seconds depending on amount.
Will check running of pump currently all i hear is it prime then stop.
Trying to start without pouring direct to carb, during the first 3 to 5 seconds whilst the injectors work it is firing however the fuel is cut before a proper start.

Forget the compression test for now

We have more information, the fuel gauge dropping

Are the lights correct on the dash

Immobilizer blinks and goes out and stay out

Oil and battery come on and stay on at ignition on

Oil and battery stay on during cranking, oil might go out if it's a long crank, the battery should come on as soon as the engine stops turning

If you set the clock, to any time does it reset and start flashing again after cranking

I guess the car was running befores the head gasket change

Fuel pump runs at ign on, to prime the system, then should run while cranking, and continue to run once started, as long as there is oil pressure.
It would appear that it may be priming, but then not running while canking or after starting. I assume all three functions go through the fuel pump relay, so that should be OK.
The fuel gauge dropping to zero may be a big clue. The fuel pump is integral with the gauge unit, and will rely on a shared earth. Connections at the tank unit may be suspect, and need to be checked. Access through a plate under the rear seat. Mind the sharp edges of the access hole.

Hi

How's it going, did you get to the bottom of your issue
Hi
I have been ill so have not had a chance to reply.
Compression is 175.
I have charged the battery and It now cranks without the fuel gauge dropping.
It attempts to start however the fuel is still cut off after a short period .
It did get very hot when the head gasket went.
It appears that the ecu must receive a "i have started firing message which it is not receiving ?

A little more information.
I have found my old fiatecuscan1.6 it shows an error which returns when cleared.
P0115 coolant Cct signal error present now.
I have connected a known working sensor however the same error persists.

175 psi isn't right

It that one cylinder or all the same

Is that with the dead battery

Should still fire but should be over 200 psi

I struggle with the adaptor tubes getting a good seal

I find just pressing down hard with the cone adapter more successful
