General Naming my 500?

Naming "her" was just a bit of fun, it's a fun car after all.
My Italian friend assumed she had a name from the off, and asked me what it was going to be, hence discussion about intricacies of the Italian language followed.
Also, hubby's great-aunt, in her late '80s learnt to drive pretty much around same age I did and was a driver for 40 years, her Austin 10 was called Bluebell.
Naming your car is just a sign of affection, I don't think guys generally think of doing so. Yes it's daft, but hey-ho. Cars move and you could argue definitition of "alive" til the bovines come home. She'll not only protect me should the worst happen but is going to make my driving life extra fun, convenient and more joyful. Seems like a pretty good friend to me. Miles better vibe about that than being told "imagine you're driving a one-tonne bomb around" by way of what driving safely meant ('80's driving instructor - didn't do very well with him, gave up trying & couldn't afford to do so by age 23 anyway). Now after 20 years of public transport I feel blessed to be a driver, novelty still not worn off.

Especially as I've just seen mine for the first time in the flesh (er, metal) ! She'll have her pre inspection check next week and I'm in love! Had to walk around TKMaxx afterwards to calm down (dear, it's only a car).

I've come to the same conclusion about originality though, and as I'm stumped, I give you, wait for it...

Slippers.

As in "ruby".:ROFLMAO:

It's only right that you have the choice to 'name' your car, but I can't help but feel that declaring to all and sundry helps form the idea that women are complete air heads, and puts the fear in men that your going to be putting lippy on at the traffic lights, and drive in a dippy manner!:bang:

Pfft. I'm a bloke. My 500 is called Isabella. You need to name it so you can have a relationship with it.

I named my twinair Tino, short for Valentino. Has to be a boys name seeing as the chrome detail on the grille looks like a classic pencil moustache :)

It's just a bit of fun.
It's not like I'm getting him a birth certificate, and saving up some money to send him to uni, I just feel like he deserves a name.

My part time job is paying for this car, I don't just see it as a car, and obviously not all people feel like that, but it's just a laugh :)

Picking him up at half 5 today :D

Well if you are the "older woman" paying for your new lover, you should call him Benjamin Braddock (the character played by Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate).

Good luck with your first date!

Oh come on. Like I'd do a crusty old land rover. I only get the lingerie out for Italian exotica. :D

I'm sure that's a range rover. But I guess you don't look at the mantlepiece while you're stoking the fire :p suspenders work well on you Jason :p

my TAP is called Fanny - Fanny the 500 lol

well technically she's really Fanny the 2nd as I previously had a 1.2 Sport who was called Fanny

I'd never named a car until I got Fanny mark 1 and it just stuck - it gives people a laugh though asking if they can have a ride in my Fanny :)
