General My 20v turbo project

Hi bud i am aiming for about 300bhp plus whatever i get from a nitrous kit.

Ive just also ordered some 13mm silicone hosing for the water pipes that run on the top of the engine, i will be sorting the bigger fixings when i have engine in posesion as i want the cooling system to be as good as possible.

The turbo cost £120 delivered. bit more than i wanted to pay as i was after one of those gt2860 turbos from america for £270 but ive been told they are not very reliable.

Ive also started painting the engine mounts in post box red.

woow, turbos are certainly coming down in price, then again brand new turbo's are expensive to some(me:D) i suppose it is best to start out on low BHP, (then again 300bhp isnt exactly low for an everyday car :))..then work ya way up and get the most out of the engine, then atleast ya know its full potential.

OMG, where did you get that from? reconditioning a stock turbo is upwards of £250 and A new turbo is usually £600 and upwards.

Thats awesome if its a genuine good turbo but be aware ;)

As an old cynic I'm with Bribges on this one. OK there are bargains out there & if truth be told I'm a tight git, but in cases such as the turbo you really cant cut corners. If youre really serious about this project I would fit proven products you know are good, if on the other hand this is just a bit of fun well best of luck....:D

the turbo is an original fiat item itself i just ment that ive been reading a site that sells alot of stuff for the garret range. and was interested in upgrading the internals.

Well hopefully guys by the weekend i shall be the new owner of some very tasty KONI coilovers, i know these are not a priority but they dont come up often and will go luvly with my speedlines. :)

I think upgrading the internals is a better option for the power i want as i can spend the money i save on other bits of the car.

This souds a good idea.

My car is running around the 300bhp mark at 1.3bar.
It has an Evo 6 FMIC
de-cat straight through exhaust with only a back box
Straight induction pipe / Ram air Cone.
And a hybrid Turbo.
The car has sooooooooooooo much usable power, she spools up by 3000rpm
and combined with the Koni springs / dampers plus other suspension goodies. The car is very fast.

:)

Yeah thats pretty much what sort of spec im heading for so far i have:

FMIC
T25 turbo
K&N cone filter
Hardpipe kit
Boost controller
Irridiun Plugs
4bar fuel reg
Ported inlet system
Greddy BOV
GTec2 chip
Sparco strut brace
brembos
------------------
Left to buy is the 3" decatted exhaust and tyres and 440cc injectors
-------------------------

along with (Fingers crossed) the adjustable coilovers and light weight wheels and some sticky icky tyres im hoping for a decent bit of performance

I agree that coilovers and good brakes (yellow stuff and drilled and grooved) are the first thing to do as well as good (T1R) tyres
No good going fast if you can't stop or end up bouncing around a roundabout doing 90 ;)
I have a stage 1 hybrid and have 290bhp from that which is good for 0-60 in around 5 seconds.
My next step is to get a 62 trim stage 3 hybrid which should be good for + 350bhp.........then it will move and that is on standard internals.
This is with the help of the mapping skills of flea mind (y)
Ps....mine spools up at around 2500 and holds power to red line which has been upped to 7800

how much would a full on live mapping session be as i think i might get one once i have uprated the turbo internals. Ill be happy with just the chip though while i save up as at the min i use a 990cc jreg micra and a merc A140 as run arounds lol i do miss the acceleration lol although the micra is like a white van lol nobody ever tries to cut you up they are too scared you will crash into them and it fits snugly into my back pocket at work to avoid embarresment lol.

It will be about £230 with a live mapping session and a few dyno runs mate.
This is very important mate, without it,you could run lean and fry your engine which I did with my last scooby.
Flea will look after you and your car, trust me (y)
You can get his info from that pit, the FCCUK

Well put,

This is a very similar setup to mine and spool up.
I would sooner have a 220 bhp car with very good brakes and handling than a more powerfull one without. In real world terms handling and braking is worth 60 odd bhp as you can use all the power.

This is why I renewed all brakes for 3g discs and yellow pads
and renewed all suspension components.

ps Donny Lad, stock 20v turbo injectors are good for 300bhp they max out at around 350bhp. If you fit larger ones then they will need mapping.

Agree 100% mate.
First job I had done, before all the coilovers and other fancy stuff was to get the brake lines, wishbones and droplinks changed.
Always start with getting the basic components right and then work your way up.
That is how I did it and the car handles like a go kart :D
A waste of money and time fitting coilovers if the rest of your suspension is not 100%

cheers guys, well i have been told the coilovers are mine now and pick them up at the weekend.

I might not bother with the bigger injectors then i might just have the originals reconned.
