Introduction

well, i put a deposit down on a 52 plate Mk2 today, very happy!

its in very nice condition, standard, no signs of crash damage or owt, the only bits were a slight ding in the passenger side rear arch, and slightly kerbed alloys :)

well i think it will be an ongoing project, as long as its reliable enough!

the interior pic is quite rubbish, but the seats still look a little dirty :rolleyes: apparently a common problem....

i get to pick it up on saturday the 5th jan, it getting MOTed by dealer, etc

i cant wait :cry:
Cheers lads. yeah i have too much stuff, i want rid of some of it :eek: Danny - nah i'd need my arches sorted. I had 5mm spacers in a while ago but it rubbed too much with a car-full.

Got my SS braided oil hose for the catch tank i got off Richie today, so spent the night fitting it.

they are as good as you are gonna get, i think. They certainly feel decent. Well worth £30 (the going rate on ebay i think) just for the bling factor. if you get one, its an unwritten rule that you have to get stainless braided hose as well :D
 
The oil recirculation pipe that sends oil back into your inlet is connected to the new tank, this catches oil but allows the engine to breath the air back into the inlet, the majority of the oil is caught in the tank. The inducted air doesnt have to 'pass' through the catch tank if this is what you mean?

They are best suited to turbo applications where theres more oil activity on the inlet side ;)

so it is actually just for a bit of bling then lol

nah, it has a purpose, but just happens to look really cool as well, (IMO) lol

it stops the oily vapours reaching the inlet, which do two bad things: clogs up your throttle body; and also lowers the effective octane of the fuel-air mixture.

On most cars there are a load of idle control valve pipes as well (the 16v doesnt have one) which the oil can clog up as well, which isnt useful at all.

people have reported better response and MPG using them on these cars, so i thought why not, it was cheap enough. Not that there is much volume of oil passing on this engine, but still....

oh, and the other difference (only in the last picture) was that i fitted the bonnet catch from the HGT, which is clean and painted silver :p

Got some more work done on the rear beam last night :)

Well. I didnt get the beam fitted today :( I found out on friday afternoon that bushes were not available. So i decided to make my own, using some Superflex bush material that i got from my local tuner. I didnt get started til later last night, and finished this morning.
It took me longer than expected to machine the rest of the bushes and fit them.

Making the outer sleeve from billet black bar - outside skimmed down, then drilled

Rear beam bush housing cleaned up with flap wheel

The bushes were put in the freezer for an hour. The beam housing was warmed a little with the oxy-torch, and the bush was hammered in. Even so, it was still very tight.
