With all those fault codes, I strongly suspect your battery is FUBAR.

Agreed. Immediate thought, and the more I've read through the thread, the more I think it is! There's even mention of a loose connection.

Idiot dealer should just strap a brand new battery on and check all the earths - if it doesn't work they can always put the old one back on! Batteries often "test" ok, but they are still FUBAR in my experience (y)

Further update. Fiat dealer Threeways of Abergele have now had my car for THREE weeks.
<SNIP>
I've now reached the stage where I have zero confidence in Threeways as I have been fobbed off once
too often. Next stop? The Court System methinks.

Before starting legal action you must ask the dealer for your money back. If no joy talk to Fiat customer services and if you used a credit card for any part of the purchase over £100 e.g. deposit, talk to the card company as they are also liable for the car. If still no joy you can then issue a small claims summons on line. Don't do this while the garage has the car as you have no leaverage. You must stop using the car s soon as you tell the garage you are rejecting it. you can claim for costs such as tax and insurance but you need to tell them if you intend to do this. You could claim for a hire car but I would not recommend it as you may not get the cost of that back. Note however that if the garage decides to try it on you could be in for a long process. I've been there and done it (non Fiat) and won. I can give some tips if you go that route.

Trouble is the purchasing dealer is not my "local" dealer. Nearest dealer (Threeways on the north Wales coast) did not offer any sort of deal: Basically, they did not want my business at all so I bought it from a dealer in south Wales, Griffin Mill, who delivered the car to my home, for an unbeatable price (over £3.5k off) and with great efficiency. I haven't contacted them yet but I may well have to. Problem is,they are about 4-5 hours away. Should have stuck to Citroen, which I have had, without ANY problems whatsoever for the past ten years.

HI.
If you are split between two dealer get onto Fiat customer service and tell them you want your money back. You really should have told the supplying dealer as soon as you had problems. The local dealer will not be making anything on this so why should they put you ahead of customers who bought from them? (playing devils advocate here).

This may complicate things if you want to legally reject the car.

One important question before advising you further: are you the first registered keeper of the car, or was it preregistered by the supplying dealer?

I'm the first registered keeper. Fiat UK are aware of the supplying/repairing dealer issue. I will however get in touch with the supplier next week but I'm giving the repairing dealer one more (final) chance before I get a bit more heavy-handed.

I'm the first registered keeper.

That helps; historically Fiat have been more generous to first owners when dealing with cases such as yours.

I'd agree that you should do everything possible to find an amicable solution to this. Going to law will be time consuming, stressful, and potentially costly. If you can agree a solution with Fiat CS, this will be the easiest and quickest way of dealing with your unfortunate situation. If it doesn't get fixed properly this time, personally I'd stand firm in asking Fiat CS to provide either a replacement new car or a refund.

Hi.
I just wonder if the major problem here is the training given to these so called "Mechanics" is up to the mark. From what I can see is they are reading the codes and then have no idea how to proceed. It's all very well saying the TA is a high tech engine which it is but it still follows principals that that were laid down in the 19th century.
All the way through this thread I have read about the "garage" stabbing about in the dark with absolutely no fault finding. I have been in Electronics all my life and not only that worked in a garage workshop for many years at weekends stripping engines, gearboxes, clutches etc Oh and yes rebuilding them. The "mechanic" should be able to read the codes and work out what they mean and then proceed. The battery has been mentioned, It's a good staring point, earth's should have been tested, the loom should have been examined for chafing, plugs and sockets checked for loose connections or pins, time consuming yes but the adage of getting a repair done first time round seems to be sadly lacking here.
There could be an intermittent fault in the ECU or BCU or any other sensor, the senior tech should have been allocated the car and left with it till repaired, that way the customer would have been happier and Fiat wouldn't have egg on their face yet again.

Dear All,
Good Day,

I was able to get to the bottom of my low oil engine pressure Warning. I was afraid of the Oil Pressure Valve or Pressure Reporting sensor but it turns out the engine oil was lower..

The below applies to Fiat Panda or 500 Hybrid 1.0 Firefly engines with engine code 46341162. It also applies to the 1,2 and the 1,4 (the problem solving use Lube Oil as per owners Manual for the 1,2 and the 1,4)

This applies also to new Fiat 500e turned hybrid with a new 48 Volt mild hybrid battery system using same engine 46341162.

The problem may be the following :

1. Low Engine Oil Level
2. Bad not original Oil Filter
3. Oil Pressure sensor reporting bad values - change the sensor
4. Wrong Thicker Oil used
5. Oil Pump Failure
6. Oil Pressure Valve leaking under acceleration - heavy load

If you do NOT change often (10.000-12.000km's max) your oil and use "Extended Service Intervalls thourgh a leasing company for example)
7. Clogged Oil Pick Up Screen
8. Oil Pick Up Tube Cracked sucking in air
9. Oil Bypass failure.
10. EGR FULLY CLOCKED . If you do not service clean EGR Valve it will report low oil pressure to get you to get to the service.. ! If you use LPG as after market install like I do you get 3 times the life expectancy of EGR Valve due to cleaner hydrocarbon for your car.

==
1. Low Engine Oil Level.

symptoms:
when accerating through corner turning Left very quickly the Low Engine Pressure Switch Off Engine comes up
when going uphill with high revs under load and turning quickly left Low Engine Pressure Switch Off Engine comes up

Use the dip stick. Pull it out and wipe it clean with a cold NOT running engine. The oil must be slighlty lower than the maximum.
The entire Min - Max distance of the Oil Dip Stick amounts to 0,5 Littres of Engine Oil . So if you pull the dipstick out and find that there is no oil at all do not panic .

The 2021-2027 Fiat Panda/Pandina/500 hybrid 500e turned hybrid with engine code 46341162 takes 0W-20 Acea C5 Engine Oil and the capacity including the filter is 2,85 L. In the dealership they put in 2,5 or 2,6 Litters so you are 25-35ml sort to begin with if you go to service at the dealeship.

The oil in the Panda must be changed every 1 Year or 10.000 Km's it is okay to go to 15.000 Km's if you are in the middle of a roadtrip and can not go to a dealership during a public holiday - however this should not be the norm.

From the factory a 0,4 Littre Oil Consumption is okay every 7.500-8.000 Km if you drive like a F1 driver especially in hot climate ie outside temperature over 35 Degress Celcius is okay and to be expected as the oil is very very thin. Same applies to all Toyota engines using 0W-20, 0W-8, 0W-6 or even 0W-4 for 2024 models..
In Greece with 41 degress celcius in Athens during June July of 2024 i measured 0,5 Littre consumption for 7.000 Km driving the car to the limit and generally pushing it uphill with AC with 5 adults and baggage. Its a 70Hp 3cyl engine and this is to expected especially if you live in the mountai and going uphill everyday a stip angle like I do commuting to work.
Other makers such as Renault use a 5 0r 6 Litter Oil Sump in order to have larger capacity to allow for engine oil being consumed at his pace.

If you get the Low Engine Oil Pressure and it is dark outside and you are not in the positiont to measure Engine Oil Level through the Dipstick go to a petrol station or pharmacy and get a 30-100ml syringe and drop 30-40ml of engine oil in the engine and most probably the constant buzzing Low Engine Pressure - Switch off Engine will go away. Just go check your engine oil level when convenient.
Even if the oil level is full or just serviced at the dealer you will not damage the engine by dropping 30ml extra oil inside .

2. Bad Oil Pressure Sensor is the sensor that reports oil pressure to Magnet Marelli ECU
Bad Oil Pressure Sensor is the sensor that reports oil pressure to Magnet Marelli ECU. The sensor can be checked at a car electrician and changed at a low cost. You can use after market not orignal just do not use crap no name from eBay..

6. Oil Pressure Valve

You will not find Brand New Oil Pressure Valve from Fiat Dealership - parts importer because they do not sell yet. The after market ones from eBay are crap and dangerous. Try finding a working valve off a car junkyard off a crashed car or something. Check if someone is braking his car down for parts and is available for sale . Perhaps in 2025 or after they will offer original genuine to the market of spare parts. Right now June 2024 nothing.

I suggest always having a 1 Litter Bottle of Engine Oil at the back for emergency use in case something comes up or you are during a long journey or roadtrip.
Please use good engine Oil.
Fiat uses bad oil Petronal Selenia 0W-20... it says Synthetic but is actually semi synthetic ...only 85% Synthetic crap.

The best engine oil you can use is AMS Oil 0W-20, another option is MOTUL Hybrid 0W-20 or 0W-20 Eco Lite or Eco Clean.
Exceptional oil you may find difficult to find is Paccelo Maker from Italy producing racing engine oils. Also very good engine oil is Eni maker also Italy. Very Very good is Ardecca from Belgium (the oil is green colour)
a cheaper option more commercially available is Castrol Edge 0W-20 C5.
The cheapest option and you should not go lower is Mannol Legend or same maker as original ie Petronas Synthium 7000AV
You will notice much less engine oil consumption with AMS OIL . There is the signature series and the european motor oil both excellent.

For discalimer I have tried other makers such Exxon Mobil 1 + super 3.000, Commline, Total Quartz, Fachs SuperSynn, Texaxo, Liqui Moly , Lukoil (russia) , eneos, ELF Fulltech (renault maker). All these makers either do not comply with Fiat Fiat 9.55535 S1 Certificate while the other mentioned meet or exceed it or Destroying the oil filter I see much less metal for example with AMS Oil or Ardecca or Eni or Pacello than exxon mobil or Furchs or Liqui Moly and the others mentioned here and engine runs smoother with better oil.

It is important to use Proper Oil Filter and not RIDEX maker from Autodoc app...
The Oil Filter must include 1 Anti-Retun Valve (Ridex does not include only Ridex Plus..)
The original Oil Filter from MOPAR is SUPER DUPER Expensive and had to find or Special order...

The original maker behind Mopar and FIAT is producer MANN Filter and product name W7003 which can be easily located online.

How to check a faulty oil pressure sensor

If the oil pressure sensor is malfunctioning, it may trigger an OBD fault code in your vehicle’s engine control module (ECM). This fault code can be read using a diagnostic scanner or code reader, and will provide information about the specific nature of the issue with the oil pressure sensor.

Some common fault codes that may be associated with a faulty oil pressure sensor include:

  • P0520: Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Malfunction
  • P0521: Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance
  • P0522: Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Voltage
  • P0523: Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit High Voltage

Faulty oil pump

A faulty oil pump can also cause the low oil pressure warning light to turn on in your Fiat Panda. The oil pump is responsible for circulating the engine oil throughout the engine, providing lubrication and cooling to the various components.

If the oil pump is not functioning properly, it may not be able to generate enough pressure to properly circulate the oil through the engine. This can result in decreased oil pressure, which can cause the low oil pressure warning light to turn on.

Some signs of a faulty oil pump include engine noise, decreased oil pressure, and oil pressure fluctuations.

Ignoring a faulty oil pump can lead to potential engine damage if the engine is not receiving adequate lubrication and cooling. It is important to address any issues with the oil pump as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the engine.

Oil pressure relief valve stuck open

If the oil pressure relief valve is stuck open in the engine of your Fiat Panda, it can cause the low oil pressure warning light to turn on. The oil pressure relief valve is designed to regulate the oil pressure in the engine by opening and closing as needed to maintain the appropriate level of pressure.

Oil flows too freely

If the valve becomes stuck open, it can allow the oil to flow too freely through the system, which can result in a decrease in oil pressure. This decrease in oil pressure can cause the low oil pressure warning light to turn on.

Clogged oil pickup screen

A clogged oil pickup screen is another possible cause of the low oil pressure warning light turning on in your Panda. The oil pickup screen is located at the bottom of the oil pan and is responsible for filtering out any debris or contaminants that may be present in the oil.

Oil pickup tube cracked, sucking air

If the oil pickup tube in your engine is cracked, it can cause the low oil pressure warning light to turn on in Panda. The oil pickup tube is responsible for drawing oil from the oil pan and sending it through the engine for lubrication and cooling.

If the pickup tube is cracked, it can allow air to enter the oil system, which can disrupt the flow of oil and cause a decrease in oil pressure. This decrease in oil pressure can trigger the low oil pressure warning light to turn on.

Clogged oil filter, and failed bypass value

A clogged oil filter and a failed bypass valve are two possible causes of the low oil pressure warning light turning on in your Fiat Panda.

Oil not changed on time

Oil that has not been changed on time or is too old can also contribute to low oil pressure in your Panda. Over time, engine oil breaks down and becomes less effective at lubricating the engine and removing contaminants. As a result, the oil pressure can drop and cause the low oil pressure warning light to turn on.

An update!
Just collected car from dealership. Apparently, they put in "about half a pint of oil"! This will be on top of the 500ml I had already put in some days ago.

I have no idea what these mean and can't find an online database of them.

Am hoping this is the end of the problem, but I have this niggling fear that it won't be!

Don't see how low engine oil could throw up all these (seemingly) unrelated faults. At no point has the oil level light come on.
This means a fundamntal electrical problem. Maybe a loose battery connection or battery fault. It could be an earth issue or the main plugs on the ecu being loose. All those warning are garbage hen oming together. TA engines have oil pressure sensors on the oil pump circuit and a deep oil sensor to protect the valve gear, plus oil temperature sensors so the uniair valve gear can make alterations as the car engine temp varies, so its quite complex. Ive had two TAs and they only use oil if driven fast. Over 70 for some miles. I suspect the lower oil pressure sensor may be playing up. Check for leaks under the car as a basic precaution. If it does this again do let us know. Flag the oil sensor issue with tge dealer in writing if tge car is still in warrantyas its a days work to replace this sensor. My view is change the battery its well known to go mad on errors if the battery is low or dying.
