In November I purchased my first car, a 1996 Cinquecento S. Since I've bought it I've had nothing with problems, most of which have been a simple fix, but a few days ago something happened and I'm lost.
As I was pulling into a parking bay, I switched from second gear to first, heard a click and my gear stick became loose! The car is currently stuck in first gear, and starts fine (Aslong as the clutch is down). My gear stick is limp and just wobbles between third and fourth, it will not move side to side at all, even with the clutch down. I've had a look under the bonnet and located the cables/levers that come from the gear stick and nothing seems to be loose or broken.
I've read on other threads about a loose connection, but everything seems fine! Could this be a break in the cable? or something to do with the gear box? I'm clueless and need to get back on the road! What can I do to find the issue?
Any help would be very much appreciated, as I am completely stuck and don't really want to take it to a mechanic and pay money I haven't got if it will be a simple(ish) fix.
