General Lights not turning off

Hi,

I got home the other night turned the engine off (but left the light stalk in the on position), the lights went off like they should. I then performed the 30sec follow me home function.

Got up the following day and the lights were still on! Luckly the car just started. Has anybody else had this problem?.

PS I tried it again yesterday but the lights went out this time.

Did both or just one side of the lights stay on?

Not sure as the car was facing a fence, but the back lights were on.

It's likely that you activated the parking lights, not the headlamps. I believe that if you leave the indicator stalk switch to the left or right and turn the ignition off, then that side parking lights stay on.

I would think that if the headlamps were left switched on all night, the battery would have been flat in the morning. Also the "follow me home" headlamps would not have switched the rear lights on.

Also, if you turn the light switch (either on drl´s or lights on -position, cant remember now) after turning the car off the parking lights will come on on both sides.

The rear lights do come on with Follow Me Home, I use their red glow to illuminate my garage door to lock it.

Now might not be a good time to say that the rear lights come on when 'follow me home' is activated on my Stilo

Doh! I left my lights switched to on after driving home saturday night, without thinking or knowing that would enable the parking lights. I mean, its a Fiat after all, since when do Fiat owners have to worry about leaving lights on when they exit a car!

Anyhow, I popped out and confirmed it, DRL's come on when ignition is off when you switch the lights on. Seem's I was lucky not to have a flat battery come Sunday afternoon.

It shouldn't have done. You can switch the engine off with the lights turned on and they won't stay on at all. The parking lights only come on once you've turned the ignition off, then set the stalk to dipped beam afterwards.

Follow me home lights use both the headlights and the DRL's, parking lights only use the DRL's so if it was only these turned on when you found the car, then you put the parking lights on!

Number plate lights and tail lights also stay on with parking lights (i think)

Yup you are right, I had a proper play about with it yesterday, So I can relax now and use it how I have always used fiats regarding lights
