you will need a facia plate to fit the new headunit. As the headunit is much smaller than the the standard stereo.

the facia plate basicallys fills the gap and snuggly holds the new head unit. The metal cage then slots through the facia and is secured in place by bending the metal tags. The head unit then clicks/locks into this metal cage.

So yes you need a metal casge to securley fit the head unit. Any brand new head unit should have come with a cage, try speakig to the person you bought it from, other wise pop down your local halfords or car audio shop and they will surely have one you could buy.

Thank you for your help stuart, i did try to put the new stereo back in myself, once i conected the new stero on and before installing it fully i gave it a try to see if it works but it didnt come on then i disconnected it and put the old one back on and that was working so i didnt know what i had done wrong and then i took it to my nearest audio shop (Enigma), they done it and charged me 35 quid. I did use your thread to get the old one out. thanx for posting

Have just bought an aftermarket facia panel, seem's to be made by a company called Autoleads. Their part number seems to be FP-01-05. This is the facia with one cubby hole beneath the main slot for your aftermarket stereo.

I have a strange problem. When my standard Visteon radio / CD player died, I ordered a new radio, a Sony MEX-BT3900U. If I plug the power ISO with that of my Fiat it doesn't work. Of course, because I have read on this forum that the red and yellow wire must be connected to each other.

If I do that, I hear the mechanics of the CD player working. But when I attach the front panel, the display isn't working. I can load a CD, and pushing the eject button the cd comes out, so the front panel does make contact. I call Sony and they say, that it means a defective front panel. Now I got sent a new radio, but exactly the same problem! Again, no display.

Now I'm confused. Would the voltage may be the issue (too low, too high?)
Someone else an idea?

(I have not tested the radio in another car, to see if it works then (unfortunately, no one nearby has a standard car radio installed).)

Hi guys
I need some advice on fitting a new xtron dvd HU to sons 06 Punto. At the car ISO block I have red, black, pink/grey/pink wires. Red and pink/grey give >10v with ign off. Red stays live with ign on pink/grey goes off, pink does nothing noticeable.
I'm connecting HU black to car black, HU red to car red, and HU yellow (+ACC) to either of other two but HU doesn't power on with ign on or off.
swapped hu red to car pink/grey and hu yellow to car red, unit now powers on with ign BUT no instruments work (speedo,temp guage, fuel guage etc). Spent two days scratching head. CAN ANYONE HELP??

So, just to make sure: on the second picture on page 5 (the first wiring option) the two red wires are connected plus the yellow wire from the aftermarket unit is connected to the red wires as well?

hi could any 1 help av tried fitting an aftermarket radio av joined the yellow wire too the red the radio works but now its saying loose connection an got no fuel gauge an all the other stuff if any 1 could thanks

Yesterday I venture myself in plugging in a new car stereo (kenwood BT32U), apparently everything went smooth, but today I had a hard time to turn on the car. When I turned it on I needed to step on the accelerator to keep the car ignited.
I drove for 15-20 minutes and then I turned it off and then on again and it ignited well.

I used the option to keep a constant electrical feed to the radio.
Basically I connected the yellow cable to the red ones.
Here is a photo of my cable connection:
(tried to insert a photo of the cable connector but I'm an newbie)

The connection is it okay? Are those the wires to join?

I've almost sure that I have turned off the radio yesterday, so is it possible that my "connection" just made the battery run almost out?

Or is my battery not strong enough?

Hi. I have purchased a second hand stilo and it had the original cd player. It has never switched on or off by the ignition. When removed stereo I've noticed that the ISO like connector has been rewired. I assume the car had aftermarket stereo fitted and before they have sold the car refitted the original HU. Probably they did not remember what wire goes where and they messed up the connection.
Can somebody tell me the original setup please?

I followed your guide and fitted my stereo really really easily. I first spliced the yellow iso wire (going to stereo not into car) on to the red live (first pic)

I then proceeded to make sure radio worked etc which it did and I also took the opportunity to run my sub wires and connect them to the radio to save removing it again. Then installed the fascia and reconnected /fitted the stereo. This is the finished piece
