I got the reg number of the car upon paying the deposit so I do believe they have it!
OK maybe I am being too cynical. But why can they not put some trade plates on the car and drive it from the compound to the dealer? How far are we talking?
When giving me the sales "spiel" the compound was "just up the road" - hence my confusion as to why it's now such a logistical nightmare for them, when before the proximity to the compound was a bonus / selling point!!
I can't understand why they can't do this either tbh..
You said you're off on hols- ask for it once you're back that way you get the car taxed from the start of september rather than paying for 1 week of use in August![]()
By my calcluations that would save the princely sum of ... £1.73.
(£30 / 52 x 3)
Wouldn't it be £2.50 (£30/12 [months]) since you don't pay for the tax weekly
I can always find something else to spend money on and prefer to pick up a car on the 1st or very early in a month rather than the last week or day of the previous month![]()

Test it like this: ask them the reg number. They should be able to give you it no problem - then you could plug it into confused.com and check what the car is.
* I think.
To reiterate again - it's not a brand new car. It's second hand!
Indeed. The car is used and in the posession of the dealers.
The reason I'm being given is that they're having a problem securing a transporter to bring the car to the dealership from their compound.
The compact version of the story of purchase is - I test drove a 500. On returning from the test drive was told, whilst I was out, customer had phoned up and put deposit down on that very car and it was now sold. However dealer checked stock and said they had an identical car with another few hundred miles on the clock in compound and subject to me giving it the once over prior to purchase, did I want it? I said yes of course (as it was a very good deal) and as it was identical and had less than a thousand miles on the clock, there couldn't be anything wrong with it.
My planned collection date of Wednesday came and went - was told up till that point it was a paperwork problem. But as of Thursday (last time I spoke to them) was now a logistics problem.
It's a bit of a joke to be honest. And I'm remaining very polite and courteous on the phone whenever I speak to the (very apologetic) dealer.. but I don't understand how they can be having these problems frankly and would just like my car now.
Popped past the dealer last night on my way to the supermarket. The salesman I dealt with wasn't in and the lone salesman said he knew nothing, and that he'd get my salesman to call me today. Which he hasn't done yet.
Slowly starting to lose patience now.

Which dealer is it?
I'd be seriously concerned about this deal now. Perhaps the car doesn't exist, perhaps it's in a bodyshop being repaired, perhaps it's subject to legal wrangling over unpaid finance, who knows??
Whatever the dealer tells you now, how can they reasonably expect you to believe it???
At this point, I'd be round the showroom today to collect any deposit I'd paid, and then I'd walk away. This sort of behaviour by dealers simply makes me .
The way you've been treated & misled, they absolutely don't deserve your business. Go take it someplace else.
...I wanted it to be an enjoyable experience...
