General I bought one!

I've just re-read the thread and saw that when you were happy with them you named them as Mazda Leamington!

Also that you did an HPI check that came back with problems. This must be the issue methinks... Why not just admit that to you if they are sorting it?

Call and ask out right what the hell is going on. If you want me to do it for you (I am a lawyer and I can tell them that I have been asked to assist you) I am happy to - send me a PM if you want to take me up on it.

That's a very generous offer - but I don't want to be giving them that kind of pressure just yet :p

Just called - my guy is out. Should be back in 10 minutes so will call again in a little while. I'm going to try and press them for some kind of estimate date and reason as to why they're being so cagey!

DOH.. so I did.. :|

No. I didn't want to "get them to leave a note for him to call me" as I did that last night and thus far he hasn't bothered... :(

Got hold of my guy. Very apologetic. He's certain my car is getting delivered to the dealership tomorrow and has taken my number as he's just about to go and confirm that with the folks up the food chain...

I will of course keep you posted ;)

So what was the reason for the delay? Or did he get out of telling you?

I know you cannot be sure that whatever they tell you is true but I would want to know what has caused this - because it might impact on your ownership somehow.

I have to be honest I wussed out in querying what the delay was.

He did call back and confirm it's due in tomorrow and that they hope to be able to get it ready for me to collect / handover on Friday after work!

Sorry to see your having problems:mad: i do hope it will be there for you Friday ,i think after all this time if its not there Friday that would be their final chance (n) and due to your patience you should collect your deposit with your pride intact and they should hold there head in shame ,..but i have crossed my fingers for you ,because i would like a positive result as you seem a very reasonable person (y)

Thanks for the good wishes! As a bit of karma balancing, I just spoke to my insurers and will get a £150 refund when I switch cars over to the Fiat! I was thrilled! :)

In terms of being reasonable... I've long since tried to go by the mantra that being rude and demanding might get you what you want, but everyone you trample on to get there will hate you and be less inclined to help you in the future.

At least if I remain polite and co-operative even if it does take me a little longer to get there, hopefully they'll see me as patient and understanding and hopefully go the extra mile for me in the future. Well, that's the dream anyway!

Besides, I don't think anyone (other than genuine scam artists) deserve to be shouted at down the phone or talked to like idiots.. I try and speak to people how I'd like to be spoken to in their situation - if that makes sense! :)

If only everyone on this forum acted in this manner :)

Couldn't agree more with all the comments about politeness.

In this case, though, some serious questions need to be asked, politely but assertively, about the real reason for the delay in obtaining the vehicle. Simply accepting what the dealer offers & wussing out on asking the hard questions might leave the OP being thoroughly ripped off.

Definitely. But you don't get anywhere by being shouty. I think if the OP doesn't get any joy before midday tomorrow then I think they need to start complaining rather loudly :)

Finally. I am picking it up tomorrow after work! :)

Insurance sorted (got a good deal!) and dealer has been very apologetic about the delays and thanked me for my patience.

So.. before I get there tomorrow I'll be calling the finance company who "still had an interest in the car" to ensure that's clear and obviously give the car a bloody good look over before I hand over my debit card!

I'd say I'll post some pics but it's a pretty much base spec 500 Pop so not much to see :)

Yes - got the car today without any problems! :) The mileage was actually a little lower than I expected - 776 miles! It's barely even run in yet.

Have to say so far I absolutely love it. The 1.2 engine is a bit weedy, but better than I was expecting if I'm honest. I even took it to some pretty nasty hills near where I live and with two friends in the car it coped admirably.

But just driving home from a meal out this evening - the seating position was perfect, it was comfortable, the stereo was perfectly good, the speedo / instrument cluster is a thing of beauty. So far, I love it! Seems like a really nice place to spend time.

One question though on keys. I've been given one key. I've not looked around the car yet but I can't help but think there should be some kind of master / spare keys, etc? Can anyone advise?

There should be one remote key and one normal non remote key.

The 1.2 will loosen up over time. Mine is just under 29k miles now and getting better :)

I shall have a poke around and see if the other key is in the car somewhere... pretty unlikely though :| I dread to think what a replacement non-remote key from Fiat costs..
