Hi folks,

I've long been trying to find out if I could add a cruise control stalk to my Punto.

I know that stilo owners did it with their cars-many had the wiring in their cars. I wodered whether my 2007 elegance (i have ESP) had it, so I opened the cover below the steering wheel. However there was nothing- neither enough space to mount the CC stalk, nor the wiring.

Many people say I need to buy the lighting stalk with which the CC comes.

Ok, has anyone ever tried to install the cruise controller? I believe the body computer has the software, and it will work if I can install it correctly.

What do you think?

You can't!

If you use the search button you'll find a few threads on it.
IanGPS has fitted the stalk and body computer IIRC and it still doesn't work. Although this Leanardo's program or something similar they have at RedDot is supposedly capable of activating CC. Although I don't think anybody has done it yet.

I wonder if a Proxi Allignment in FIATECUSCAN will also do the trick too? (When GP is supported for this)

Still got to get down to RedDot and try out the Leonardo software.

Hope to get down in the next few weeks and will report back.

I really dont understand-while formerly manufactured stilo has it, a newer model, grande punto, doesn't have the infrastructure.

Now you say that ECU needs an upgrade, right? However, i was going to believe that it would work without an upgrade because my car has ESP and cruise control was an option to buy, which means they were just going to add the other type of stalk with the CC if I wanted it.

Yes they would of added a stalk, but they would of also programmed the body computer to use it. This cannot be done after it has left the factory, by fiat anyway. It will have the infrastructure but needs enabling. The stilo, like the astra, you could just plug the stalk in as the body computer was already activated for cruise control (probably a batch of wrongly programmed ecus) but some of them did need activating

thread from the dead but it is time to update it.
the answer is yes it can be retrofitted. i've done it myself. if your car is sub 2008 production you will need a small cable 2mm is fine ,multiecuscan registered with a connector , (i used the elm 327 v.1.4)and the you'll have to change the whole flasher(i don't know the exact word your are using).
you dissasemble the steering wheel and the flasher. if you look closely you will see two connectors.one above the levers and one bellow. in the upper you have to insert a cable into pin 8 position and an another in pin 41 to the body computer connector. behind the fuse box. there are 2 connectors you have to unplugg the one with the many and thin cables. when you're done with cable plugging then connect multiecuscan go to your model change the status of cruise control from disabled to enabled. then execute a proxy alligment and you're done. pls note that everyone who has an abarth ,the small cable is already there and the only thing left to do is to connect the multiecuscan and programm it.
as for the cars from 2008 and above it can also be retrofitted but i don't know anything about cables and other things.
for pictures see this

all instructions where found from a french thread which i no longer can find and the italian thread offcourse.people there know absolutely everything about grande punto and tried almost every modification you can imagine.
