I can't track down a table showing me which depth gasket i need.
My vehicle had broken cambelt. A garage put a replacement head on and i am currently exploring the block to see if i can find any damage. The piston tops show NO sign of damage, which surprises me,
The garage had replaced the original gasket and put on one that is about 2mm thick (part nos 61-31100-30).
Now the garage said that they could get the engine started, it ran for 5 minutes then stopped, and they couldn't start it again. I could just buy the same gasket but if they chose wrong, i might be repeating their error (and maybe? that might stop the engine..?).
Anyway. I have measured the max protrusion of the pistons on the highest point, and it looks about 3mm on all of the pistons.
The eLearn i have is for a different engine (244, common rail) and that seems to have a different expectation of protrusion.
Can anyone point me at the table for gaskets for my 230 td (1999)?
thanks
