hi guys i was wondering if anybody can help me
i have a 2002 punto active sport 1.2
it had a after market alarm fitted which i had 2 take out as car wouldnt start and the alarm was constantly going off anyways i have no lights on dashboard and it wont start

I'd start with the battery
Are the terminals clean and tight?

What is the current battery voltage?

I take it there is no response at all from the car with the key in? Nothing works?
If the battery checks out okay - i'd be checking the big multiplug in the back of the ignition barrell

ziggy

the alarm was in car when i brought it
and yes it trys to start
ive put new battery in car
get the door light and headlights but nothing on dash
ive had fuses checked and they r all fine so im told

terminals?? sorry its my 1st car
i dont really have a clue what im doing :bang:

immobiliser turns off your dashboard lights?

Thats a negative

the immboliser just puts the key code light on - should it fail to disengage
The dash lights would still function normally

Battery terminals - Right hand side, there is the 2 lumps that are positive and negative
Ensure they are clean and tight (give em a wiggle)
If they can move, they are too loose

Did you remove the instrument panel. Or, disturb the cabling in that area?
If so, check plug on instrument panel ;)

@Ziggy122 Is there anychance this could be earth strap? Im not sure so dont want to say if it isnt that

i do wonder
cjnuke, since you've attempted a jump start, means either you have access to jump leads

Are you able to attach the Black jumper cable (Negative one)
On the engine mount on the left hand side of the engine bay, Not the part thats on the cars chassis, but the bit thats sort of floating between the car chassis and the actual engine

And put the other side on the NEGATIVE terminal battery (the one with the - symbol near it)

As i do remember when i was ****ting around with my scrappy punto, i burnt the earth strap out when i was jumping it with a dead (well Fubarded battery)
I got a puff of smoke as the wire melted, but it took the dash out, didnt allow the car to work

IF by putting the jump lead as i've said, the dash wakes up / allows you to attempt to start, we may be onto a winner here

See i do have my uses :D

Worth trying yourself because it saves paying someone for a 5 min diy attempt

Is it just the siren you removed or the whole lot?
If you open the cover for the fuse box on the drivers side. You will see the fuse box which is attached to the front of the body computer. Check all the wiring to the plugs is ok. The plug you really want to be looking at is unfortunately the most awkward one to get at. Its at the back top right as you look at it from the front green plug. This plug being disconnected will cause exactly the symptoms you have. No power to the dashboard and turns over but wont start.
Check its properly plugged in its the most awkward plug to take out or put back in properly because its so close to the sound deadening. Which gets in the way of the catch. If someone has had it out before maybe trying to wire in the aftermarket alarm or central locking? It may not have been put back properly.
I have also seen water get to this plug and corrode the pins inside so check it all looks clean.
When I get the kids to bed I'll take some pictures of mine so you can see what i'm talking about.
