@ J333EVO - Thank you very muchley for the pictures. What has been done with the bracket, is exactly what i thought about doing as well (y) There have been no issues of the cable and rubber bung falling out of the bracket, because its open ended? I presume not else you'd have changed it (y)

Kristian

There is no chance of the rubber bung falling out, it is held in really tight, you have to prise it out, and getting it in is challenging. :)

Did a few hours today...then onto the 50 hundred launch at my local dealers....queue several wine and beers (no, I wasn't driving :)), so i'll keep the typing short lol :p

I was going to go the same route as emma's sei for the throttle body, but sadly my vac line for the brake servo got int the way (differnet position), so i removed the 1.4 charcoal cannister, cut it off, butchered the sei mpi throttle cable bracket, drilled and bolted it on.

It sits not entirely true with the mechanism, but doesn't slip out of the runner , so should be the job :D

I installed a new loom for the COP's .. was a pain in the arse lol...then wired the rest of the loom in:

i have about 30 mins of soldering to do tomo, then thats pretty much it...

To say I'm nervous is an understatement lol.

Here's the bay to date! Sadly I had to remove the cda to work, and when it goes back on it will not be in the same position.

It WILL be running soon, and hopefully to some events later on in the year :)

Right, I finished wiring up today. Tried to start, and it was a no go :(

So may variables, the new VR bracket, untested engine, new Megasquirt wiring and components, new wiring looms, new "features" like the coil on plug.

After a few hours of messing with the VR, testing connections, etc it wants to start but isn't going yet.

I got a few pops and bangs ;)

I have fuel, no probs there. Spark looks a bit weak, and my MAP sensor wasn't working.

I have fixed the MAP on the PCB this evening, a broken contact from meddling with the board so much.

Hopefully that will sort out the problems :)

One thing I did note, cranking speed is WAY lower than the 1.2 16V! It was about 400--420 rpm on the 1.2. Now it's more like 200-220 rpm. This could possibly due to the far higher3 compression ratio 11:1, but i have fitted the 1kW starter as well

At the moment I am using two batteries to start, as all this testing kills them so quickly.

No post of mine would be complete without a picture...but sadly i didn't take any, all I have is this really poor video or the 4 spark plugs firing in batch, with the COP's. Its really rubbish, so probably not worth viewing but anyways ;) :

VIDEO

On a positive the coil sticks fiat use are actually used on many modern race cars, so should be up to the job (y)

Thats it for now......better luck for tomorrow (y)

Glad to hear you are nearly there :D

I'm sure your not far away from a good result.

In regards to the starter what is the difference between the 1108, 1242 16v and 1368 starter?

I have a feeling i'm still using the 1108 starter? Although starts on the button may need to upgrade at somepoint? you mention a kilowatt or something? lol me not being that techy and all!

anyway good luck finishing it off, just tweaks to go!

83A on a starter.. meh, thats not a lot - i'd never actually known how much they draw, so did over kill on my wiring for mine and tis good for 200A. 1108 starter on a 1242 high compression mpi engine, 400-500rpm crank speed.

COP looks like working though :D

time to play with trigger angles etc?

Cranking when its actually sparking is more like 400 which is better :)

It idles but rpm is fluctuating up and down a lot.

The top end seems a bit noisy, and the bottom end near the gearbox sounds even worse....

then my coolant hose blew off at 91 degrees, and blasted red hot coolant all over the engine and garage.

I think the hose is my fault as it was a bodge job. The proper fiat hose its two diameters at either end, so i just wrapped tape round the barb to make it bigger, and then clamped it on.

Thats what i'm hoping at least. Noisy top and bottom ends and hoses blowing off doesn't sound the best combination! Maybe a compression test in the morning :(

Times like this really get you down

@Brooky - lolol, maybe inb the future, it is a plan to low boost it, but not at the moment :p

@arc - Damn right! :D

Here's the disaster earlier. The return hose blew off at full temp and dumped all of the expansion tank coolant over the floor. I looked round the shops for a step down hose adapter adn a smaller hoes but no joy. For now it is now ptfe'd and two clamps holding it on now. It seems to be doing the job ... phew!

After topping up and trying again it didn't blow and i got it warmped up and idling, albeit not perfect, but better than earlier.

Here are a few video's I youtube'd as I can embed them in here, something i can't seem to grasp with the forum software.

The engine seems to be hunting a fair bit with ego correction, but disabled it's ok.

The major issue i am now having is the battery light keeps coming on, and it likes to stall when this happens. It does it more under load, like when the fan came on.

I'll clean up the connections all round, run a new earth line and hopefully it'll be time to hit the road.

Still not happy with the noise, had a weird screech at one point (sounded like the box), and still sounds tappety, but seems to be running ok. Can't wait too get it out on the road :D

The crappy camera phone probably doesn't help the sound. It sounds a bit odd, but NOT like it does in the video clips lol. I will caompare the noises i am hearing with my mothers 100hp and see if the are similar.

It was warrantied for 3 months (now gone), has only done 8K, and was from a rear ender, so i'm hoping its all good. Compression test will help me decide for sure, or just tget the schnizzel out on the road and see how it runs :D

my camera makes my cinq engine sounds really tappety but its actually pretty silent, strange. great work, cant wait to see it finished.
