I just got my brand NEW Grande Punto out the grarage yesterday, everything looked sweet till 15 mins later at the light, the selespeed just switched to 'N' by itself and refused to move to '1'. I had to change to manual, switch off the car and restart the car, open and close the door before it managed to goto '1'.

30 mins later, it did that again and refused to change to '1' anymore. Angrily called up the dealer and he sent a guy down to get it sorted. it had 8KM on the bloody mileage clock for crying out loud!!

the guy brought his examiner computer and basically said he cldn't detect anything, but the car wouldn't engage the gear. So there it goes towed back to the garage. The next day, they spent a whole day waiting for Italy to advise on how to fix it, and said they had to tear the punto apart.

Now my question to u guys is, is this the point where i demand a replacement car?

NO. You have to give them 3 chances to rectify the problem. You cant just say i dont like it or its got a problem. Trust me...... i got my car replaced.

I let them try to fix the problems 3 times, doesnt have to be the same problem btw. when it wasnt fixed i told them i wanted a replacement, as well as the finance company and guess what, they told me to go do one.

Only after WEEKS of back and forth and letters, and finally threatened court action did i get the car replaced.

Soz to hear about the early problem, very unfortunate (n)

If you did demand a new car you'd probably have to wait 12 weeks for a new one to be built and delivered!? Ever thought of that? If we all demanded new cars after the first problem no one would bother making cars! Mercedes would be especially screwed

A couple of members have had probs with their selespeeds so worth seeking advice from them and looking through previous threads for further info. From what i can gather most of their probs are now fixed and were mainly solved by software updates. (y)

Firstly, welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of GP madness. Take it easy brother, a lot of GP owners here have complained about various problems with the car and if everyone demanded a replacement when something goes wrong, Fiat would go bankrupt in no time. I've lived with my problematic GP for almost five months and I still love the car to bits. Patience.. patience.. ;)

Well i have just had a guy from Fiat Uk ring me about my new problems with my replacement car....all is looking very promising again Woop woop(y)

ah but c'mon 8km on the clock is kinda stretching way too early. if this happened like when i did 3000km i'm totally fine, but 30 mins out from the showroom floor and 8km and to see it get towed away... that kills man!!

does anyone hav a similar problem with a dead selespeed? ahppening on a brand spanking new car? wld like to know how such situations are handled... compenstation? etc...

i think they'd better give me a loaner courtesy car throughout, this is just too much. If i'd known better to hav gone for a honda. the dealer told me no such cases has happened (ya know the usual mumbo) i just don't buy that line anymore. this sux man!! tht's 54000 Singapore dollars down the tube for a punto

At the very least it should be a courtesy car! Granted the probs i have had with mine were minor and occured after 1000km, but a courtesy car was still expected when mine was in the garage.

Whilst i have no knowledge about what happens before a car gets handed over to a customer from a dealer, for a problem to occur so soon i am suprised it wasn't picked up in the checks done by the dealer before handing the keys over to you.

Maybe T can shed a bit more light on this?

Do they actually do checks then???? I hear that they do, but you wouldnt think it:D

Car wasn't obviously given its 8 mile (at least) EOBD drive test cycle or the fault would of been picked up/noticed.

I have seen salesmen quickly filling out PDI sheets or not at all. What you have to remember is the first few miles are crucial and its during this time faults will occur where they have been lurking since the fitter at the factory (who was having a bad day) couldn't be bothered rectifying (or did'nt notice) the fault.

A PDI should consist of test of all circuits, inspection under vehicle & the usual tyres/levels etc.Afterwards the EOBD cycle should be carried out.

p.s it's Dualogic NOT Selespeed.

No its not, its NoLogic.. :p

But interesting how you pointed that out; both times when I had it recalibrated on the report sheet they gave me (or whatever its called) it said something like 'Recalibrated Selespeed blah blah blah'. I've asked them why its SS and not DL, and was told it doesn't really matter because they're just the same thing. And I was like, 'No its not - if they're the same thing they wouldn't have different names then would they?'
