Panda (Classic) Godiva -- the blue 750L (L is for "Low mileage")

Introduction

PIPPIN -- the blue 750L (L is for "Low mileage")

Well, having not "driven stick" for many, many years, picking up Pippin (the Panda formerly known as Godiva...) was one heckuvanadventure...!

It was fun, though! And I got him/her up to an indicated 70 mph, at one stage; but s/he cruises rather nicely between 60 and 65 mph. (It's a good job s/he doesn't have a rev counter...!) S/he also drove really well in heavy traffic in town... (it's the Shakespeare Birthday Weekend, here; and really sunny...). :D

Here s/he is, parked outside Black Cat Motors, in Stratford-upon-Avon: waiting to be MOT'd, serviced, and given a thorough once-over. (And I make no apologies for promoting them as a garage: they deliver sterling service -- which includes taking their customers all the way to pick up their new cars...! A big thank-you to John, the owner, therefore, for whizzing me up the A46 in his swish 4.2 Audi A8, earlier...! And for commenting that "It doesn't look like a twenty-three-year-old car, does it?") (y)

Thanks to everyone for their help and support -- especially to purple haze for bringing him/her to my attention...! :worship:

Watch this space...!

PS: Not a bad way to celebrate my 1,500th post to the Forum, eh...?!

How Pippin looks now -- after a light fettling from VmanC... :slayer:

Re: Pippin the Reservoir Panda

As if!!

Anyway you need something beginning with V to make it spring up.......

Fortunately he will be at the show tomorrow, and can probably give you a hand, so to speak!
Doesn't have to be Vernon. Anybody can stand at the front and lift it for you while you pull the handle!
...or you could just twiddle the rubbers either end of the front edge of the bonnet up a couple of turns.

2 of mine are shyte to open. If I pull the cable back into the car and get a pair of long nosed mole grips and clamp them to the cable as close to the bonnet pull as I can (therefore effectively shortening the cable) then usually it will work

The only time you'll see a 750L overtaking other Pandas...

I knew my addled brain had forgotten something....

Thank you to Palio for drawing this to my attention: but here -- courtesy of Stewart Davidson Photography -- is Pippin overtaking the other, larger-engined slowcoach Pandas at extreme high speed, on the way in to the rally.... Powwweeeerrrrrrrr...! :D

Actually, this was the first convoy (six drivers; nine cars...), queuing up to get in; and me trying to wind the passenger-side window down (you can do that in a Mk2 Panda, y'know...!), to let them know where I was parking, to take them back to get the second lot...!

Needs to go on the other thread too - subtle hint alert!! ;)

Wish mine was as rust free as yours :(

Ta...! (y)

To be honest, I did have a bit of welding done, when I first got Pippin... -- maybe not all strictly necessary: but, what with fitting new suspension all-round, and the homewardette eventually being the main driver, I just wanted to make sure all was as good (and safe) as it could be. Also: the door bottoms are starting to go; and there are a few little rust patches appearing here and there, that will be sorted soon... -- so, it's not quite as good as it looks in the photos... -- but still remarkable for a twenty-three-year-old...!

Re: Raindrops keep rollin'

Just went out to clean the windscreen: to remove the squillions of dead flies I collected on Sunday... -- and noticed this....

Isn't that just beautiful...? (Or am I too sad for words?)

Theres nothing more satisfying than rain on your car beading :) Means you have done a cracking job of polishing! :)

Sometimes, it's the little jobs that are the most satisfying... -- carried out in a couple of minutes: between a bowl of soup and a large coffee (not to mention in between the heavy rain showers... -- although the sun is out, now that I've come indoors, of course...). :D

Ever since I had to remove the offside front indicator, in a lay-by, to remove bits of pigeon, on Sunday, it's been annoying me that the bottom screw on that side had lost its plastic top (and therefore had to be taken off with pliers, once the lens had been removed...). It turned out, today, that the same was beginning to happen to the nearside lamp, as well. From what Palio has said, this is not uncommon.... :(

Just look at the difference in colour...! (I replaced all four, by the way....) The car may have only done 25,000 miles; but 23 years of sunlight have played havoc with the condition of the plastic....

Now, at least, the screw heads match the lenses; and the offside indicator doesn't wobble around.... Here's to the next 23 years...! (y)
