Panda (Classic) Godiva -- the blue 750L (L is for "Low mileage")

Introduction

PIPPIN -- the blue 750L (L is for "Low mileage")

Well, having not "driven stick" for many, many years, picking up Pippin (the Panda formerly known as Godiva...) was one heckuvanadventure...!

It was fun, though! And I got him/her up to an indicated 70 mph, at one stage; but s/he cruises rather nicely between 60 and 65 mph. (It's a good job s/he doesn't have a rev counter...!) S/he also drove really well in heavy traffic in town... (it's the Shakespeare Birthday Weekend, here; and really sunny...). :D

Here s/he is, parked outside Black Cat Motors, in Stratford-upon-Avon: waiting to be MOT'd, serviced, and given a thorough once-over. (And I make no apologies for promoting them as a garage: they deliver sterling service -- which includes taking their customers all the way to pick up their new cars...! A big thank-you to John, the owner, therefore, for whizzing me up the A46 in his swish 4.2 Audi A8, earlier...! And for commenting that "It doesn't look like a twenty-three-year-old car, does it?") (y)

Thanks to everyone for their help and support -- especially to purple haze for bringing him/her to my attention...! :worship:

Watch this space...!

PS: Not a bad way to celebrate my 1,500th post to the Forum, eh...?!

How Pippin looks now -- after a light fettling from VmanC... :slayer:

I'm not so sure what's happened to this thread (like all Classic Panda threads, unwound terribly...): but I saw this in my Haynes, when I was looking for dash-related stuff....

Anyone got one of these fitted...? Did it come as standard with any model...?

I've read somewhere it was an option. Mr Haze has one in his VIP

Re: Evolution of the species: from Pippin to Pandora

You could quite easily pretend to idiots that Pippin is 2009 because of the plates.

I've also just realized (d'oh) that if it was 769, rather than 759 (or even 750...), then it would be rather apposite.... Strangely enough, Pandora is a 2009 model... -- the reg is personalized to Mrs h.

PS: Did you know that F14 PAN is for sale, from the DVLA... -- for just five-hundred-and-ninety-nine of your English pounds...?

I've been looking for a suitably retro digital clock for fizzle, has to be red or green LED, not easy to locate, but nicely quiet, low power consumption, glow in the dark and accurate, hopefully

That's nice but too expensive I have a bid on a similar item for half that price which is still too much money but you're only bankrupt once :p

Just to report that Pippin performed faultlessly on the hundred-mile journey from home to within spitting distance of VmanC's (apart from my newly-installed cigar lighter giving up the ghost, five miles in...). I could even hear Radio 4, going at 70, on the A34...! (y)

Even managed an indicated 75 mph (about 70, according to the GPS), going up a slight incline. I now covet Didge3's rev counter even more, though....

Fun; and much easier to drive than I would have imagined. I even got a wave from a young guy driving an old yellow 500 (which looked in pristine condition...)! Just a little stiff (go on: you know you want to...) from the not-quite-adjustable-enough seating position. My gear changes are so much better, though...!

Off for a rest; and a rub-down with this week's Classic Car Buyer. And looking forward to meeting Betty -- and the great Pandini himself -- tomorrow...! :worship:

Well done! For hitting 70 in 4th alone, let alone 75, It's loud enough doing 75 in 5th for me, approaching 4300rpm too! I've actually hit 80 downhill before, things shook violently.

Nice to hear you've gotten a wave, I've picked up quite a few admirer's (for the car that is) on my travels who smile and wave. (y)

Isn't this Pippin now?

For the terminally bewildered amongst us (possibly that's just me! ) can you do something about the name of this thread please homeward - Panda's get sensitive about such things too........ (y)

Just changed the title of the first post (sorry -- been meaning to do that for a couple of days...): but, so far, the thread is still listed under the old name....

Will this change autmagically? Do I need to bother purple haze (who I think has b*gg*r*d off on his hols...)? We shall see....

That will teach me to name a gift car in advance.... :bang:

Pippin powweeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr...!

Two things, before I go to bed:

  1. As everyone else probably knows, VmanC is half-god, half-genius (and a completely genuine, knowledgeable, patient, and lovely guy). (y)
  2. If I'd thought that Pippin was peppy before, after waving his magic wand at my distributor (amongst other things), the car zoomed home as if there was a tiger in the tank! [The highlight of my journey was accelerating up a hill on the A34, in fourth, from 65 mph, past a fleet of lorries. (Mind you, I had a following wind....)] :D
Thank you, Vernon, for an interesting, educative and successful afternoon! :worship:

Glad you had a good time.
The 750 is no slouch if you're in the right gear, I find the 750 to be respectably fast from 0 - 50, it just seems to take quite a while to get from 50 - 60.
Which is what makes it's 0-60 time so naff.

How perceptive of you Stephen, and I thought I was hiding it so well.:p

Great to meet up today, it was a pleasure to have you around.

Pippin did put up a fight though didn't he! :bang: I'm pleased we managed to improve things in the end, there is more to come though so let's hope I win round two.

Really looking forward to starting on Betty in the near future, she's gonna be a good un.

I think he was so happy to be in his spiritual home, that he didn't want to leave.... ;)

Oh -- and just in case anyone doubts the value of protecting your rear arches (oh no...): this is what the new protectors (thank you for fitting them, Vernon!) looked like after only 100 miles...! :p

Really looking forward to starting on Betty in the near future, she's gonna be a good un.

She sure is... -- what a beauty! And she's going to be so smart, once she's been fettled...! :yum:

Had a look at your original distributor today and found that the two halves of the contact set were indeed shorting out through each other where they fit over the pivot post. (n). I replaced both contacts and all is now well. Will fit the distributor to Pinky to make sure. :)

Shh... -- don't let anyone know I borrowed bits of Pinky, to get home.... :rumour:

Dare I ask about the replacement distributor that also didn't work...? Was it using the same contact set...? I think I lost track, somewhere along the line....

Thank you for doing this, anyway... -- hopefully it didn't take long to suss.... (y)

Well, I checked the replacement distributor with a continuity tester and it seems to work fine so don't know what's going on there. I can't test it on Pinky though as your distributor has its vac. adv. unit. :)
