Panda (Classic) Godiva -- the blue 750L (L is for "Low mileage")

Introduction

PIPPIN -- the blue 750L (L is for "Low mileage")

Well, having not "driven stick" for many, many years, picking up Pippin (the Panda formerly known as Godiva...) was one heckuvanadventure...!

It was fun, though! And I got him/her up to an indicated 70 mph, at one stage; but s/he cruises rather nicely between 60 and 65 mph. (It's a good job s/he doesn't have a rev counter...!) S/he also drove really well in heavy traffic in town... (it's the Shakespeare Birthday Weekend, here; and really sunny...). :D

Here s/he is, parked outside Black Cat Motors, in Stratford-upon-Avon: waiting to be MOT'd, serviced, and given a thorough once-over. (And I make no apologies for promoting them as a garage: they deliver sterling service -- which includes taking their customers all the way to pick up their new cars...! A big thank-you to John, the owner, therefore, for whizzing me up the A46 in his swish 4.2 Audi A8, earlier...! And for commenting that "It doesn't look like a twenty-three-year-old car, does it?") (y)

Thanks to everyone for their help and support -- especially to purple haze for bringing him/her to my attention...! :worship:

Watch this space...!

PS: Not a bad way to celebrate my 1,500th post to the Forum, eh...?!

How Pippin looks now -- after a light fettling from VmanC... :slayer:

Re: Pippin goes pop... -- PICTURE HEAVY!

Driving above 35 drowns your clock out? Or the fan?
Just starting the engine drowns my clock out so either your clock is louder than mine or my engine is louder than yours

That was badly phrased, wasn't it? Anything above tickover drowns out the clock (once the choke is fully in...). But it takes getting up to speed to drown the fan out (at speed 1). And how I envy you your rev counter (and -- just a teensy bit -- your fifth gear...).

I have lots of wiring, I was so excited when I actually had a connector that I recognized, then I followed the wiring back and it doesn't seem to actually go anywhere, it has an earth that goes through a hole and the rest of the wires just stop before they reach anywhere

I think we're going to need photographs, and a list of wire colours, etc., to get to the bottom of this one....

Rev counter is handy, I only bought it because it came up on ebay and is Veglia so it matches the current instruments very well. 5th gear means I can do 70 at 3900rpm, which isn't too deafening. (y)

I'll try and get a picture tomorrow when I go about trying to sort the dash bulbs out. If I get time that is.

Pippin now shines brightly!

In the five minutes between showers, fitted a pair of Ring RU12 12v 60/55w H4 P45t halogen headlamp bulbs... -- which I think were recommended by Most Easterly Pandas, in another thread. So thank you! :worship:

Even in sunlight, the difference was obvious! (And it's so nice to be able to change bulbs, without either having to drop the bumper or drag the fusebox out of the way.... Even Mrs homeward thinks it's a neat-looking engine bay...!) :D

Glad they're doing you well, I've been bad, as I've so many of the old type of bulbs (about 4 sets) and only now use the Panda as a weekend / local toy, I've reverted and started using the old school dimmer bulbs again :p

Will go back to the better ones once I've blown my way through these.

Mrs homeward just sat in the car (to admire my skill at ICE installation, of course... -- the homewardette is just happy that she's some way of playing music from her iPhone...); and said -- before I'd even turned the ignition on... -- "What's that noise...?!"

I've been looking for a suitably retro digital clock for fizzle, has to be red or green LED, not easy to locate, but nicely quiet, low power consumption, glow in the dark and accurate, hopefully

I'm not so sure what's happened to this thread (like all Classic Panda threads, unwound terribly...): but I saw this in my Haynes, when I was looking for dash-related stuff....

Anyone got one of these fitted...? Did it come as standard with any model...?

Re: Pippin goes pop... -- PICTURE HEAVY!

Here it is... -- after a quick trip to Maplin, for connectors (and Costa, for nourishment) -- pumping out Radio 4....

For sake of completeness (I actually typed "complete mess", the first time around...), this post explains the wiring, etc.....

Re: Pippin goes pop... -- PICTURE HEAVY!

You have a different clock to me. I think. Does it make noise when you sit in the car with everything off?

You also have significantly less wiring than I do behind your head unit.

You should have seen it before I took the alarm out!

The wires to the chocolate block connector are for rear speakers, left them in case you wanted surround sound. ;)

This is the seller that I bought my Veglia rev counter off, nice bloke, very quickly delivery (y)

My very own stalker has one in his VIP, doesn't he
