Technical Gearbox

Hi I have a 1996 2.5td fiat ducato motorhome the problem is my 5speed gearbox has given up on me,I'm finding it near impossible to find a replacement so would a 2.8td gearbox fit strait in to it,any help would be greatfully welcome as it's causing me sleepless nights. Thanks

Hi, "given up on me", is not a technical term that I am familiar with, although widely used. Can you, please, be more specific. Is the box lying on the road? Are you struggling to select one or more gears etc. Eagerly awaiting more concise description of problems. Ian

Shafts and gears are all done mechanics that do gearbox can't get the parts to rebuild it so needs replacing

Hi, I can't believe all the shafts and all the gears are gone. Have they any idea what has caused this catastrophic damage. Maybe they don't want the bother of the repair and would prefer just to replace. A second opinion may be called for here. Try to get the gearbox to another, specialist, repairer with experience of older Ducatos. The only part I am aware of being difficult to source is 2nd gear but I may be wrong. Best of Luck, Ian.

Cheers Ian will see what I can do even engineers that no the old parts are few and far between now dying trade.

Hi, I had my 2nd gear done a couple of years ago by a guy called Stephen Brear Gearboxes Ltd in Leeds. Tel.01132632073. If you can determine the faults, give him a ring and pick his brains. He's very experienced and does work for lots of garages in the Leeds area. The only problem with his company is that you have to deliver gearbox, ex-vehicle, to him but he'll give you honest advice.
