General gearbox spring

Hi, I have a fiat ducato 1.9td 1999. The problem with my gearbox is when in neutral there seems to be no spring to help with locating the gears, Can anyone tell me where I can find out where it is? Is it inside the gearbox or can you get to it from the outside?

i ve got fiat ducato 1.9TD 2001, just finished dismantling my spare gearbox as i have second gear sycromech worn on both gearboxes, there is no springs in gearbox to hold you selectors in neutral gear but if no gear is engaged the lever should sit naturally in central position, so if your gearstick neutral position is not central, i would guess its the cable adjustment has come loose

If your gearbox is similar to others in the range it might be worth checking to see if the pivot where the cables attach is seized.
