That has been tried too so im presuming the ecu may need replacing thenHi I have a fiat 500 2009 and airbag and fuel cut off unavailable lights are on car starts and drive as it should ive tried the reset but still on any help would be appreciated as mot is due thanks
The ECU won't need replacing it'll just need to be sent off to a specialist company who deal with airbag ECU'S to be all reset as the MES system won't erase the airbag codes, I recently had this exact problem with my Panda & sorted it for the MOT, I removed the ECU from the car, sent it off to a company called Autotronics after booking the repair in online, you'll need the part number when booking it online, if it's just a reset it needs it's just under £80 with collection & delivery back to your door but mine had a problem within the ECU itself so ended up costing me £240 all in & doesn't need to be reprogrammed, plugged it back in & all has been good since, much cheaper than a replacement ECU from Fiat & having to have it all reprogrammed to the car, here's the link to the company I used https://www.autotronics.co.uk/, even with the other problem my ECU had as well as being reset it was only a 3 day turnaround from sending it off to being all plugged back into the car, hope this helpsThat has been tried too so im presuming the ecu may need replacing then
That's great thanks for your help I will look into itThe ECU won't need replacing it'll just need to be sent off to a specialist company who deal with airbag ECU'S to be all reset as the MES system won't erase the airbag codes, I recently had this exact problem with my Panda & sorted it for the MOT, I removed the ECU from the car, sent it off to a company called Autotronics after booking the repair in online, you'll need the part number when booking it online, if it's just a reset it needs it's just under £80 with collection & delivery back to your door but mine had a problem within the ECU itself so ended up costing me £240 all in & doesn't need to be reprogrammed, plugged it back in & all has been good since, much cheaper than a replacement ECU from Fiat & having to have it all reprogrammed to the car, here's the link to the company I used https://www.autotronics.co.uk/, even with the other problem my ECU had as well as being reset it was only a 3 day turnaround from sending it off to being all plugged back into the car, hope this helps
I am having the same issue as above. Is it dangerous to drive my Fiat if I do not get this fixed? The ECU won't need replacing it'll just need to be sent off to a specialist company who deal with airbag ECU'S to be all reset as the MES system won't erase the airbag codes, I recently had this exact problem with my Panda & sorted it for the MOT, I removed the ECU from the car, sent it off to a company called Autotronics after booking the repair in online, you'll need the part number when booking it online, if it's just a reset it needs it's just under £80 with collection & delivery back to your door but mine had a problem within the ECU itself so ended up costing me £240 all in & doesn't need to be reprogrammed, plugged it back in & all has been good since, much cheaper than a replacement ECU from Fiat & having to have it all reprogrammed to the car, here's the link to the company I used https://www.autotronics.co.uk/, even with the other problem my ECU had as well as being reset it was only a 3 day turnaround from sending it off to being all plugged back into the car, hope this helps
Hi Newfiatgirl & welcome to the forum, It'll still be drivable but the whole airbag system along with the fuel cut off will be disabled so in the event of an accident the airbags will not deploy & the fuel will not shut off, unfortunately this is quite an annoying common issue with all model 500's, 319 Panda's (12 on) & Ducato's, from previous experience that I had with my old 18 plate Panda which I no longer own due to this issue, it will keep coming back & never go away even after having the Airbag module repaired, mine was repaired twice & the 3rd time it came back it messed up the main body control module as well, the best advice I can give you personally from previous experience is to send the airbag module off for repair/reset, then once its back in the car get shot of the car before the issue returns as it will come back, new airbag modules are a main dealer only part & they'll rip you off for the privilege, they are available 2nd hand but along with a 50/50 chance it'll have the same issues as yours has & still have to be programmed to the car so it's not a risk worth taking. I'll never own a 500 or another 319 Panda (2012 on) again due to this unnecessary module, you'd be better off finding a really decent 169 Panda (2003 - early 2012) as the underpinnings on the 500 are from the 169 Panda's, they are also a much better car overall than the 500 as they are practical & a lot less to go wrong, I'm a big believer in the less is more approach when it comes to cars & lastly they don't have the annoying notoriously unreliable airbag system the later Panda's/500's have. The Panda I had I'd owned from new & was only just under 5 years old when this issue first started last year, it kept coming back so in June this year I sold the car for less than it was worth to just get shot of it & replaced it with a 24 year old Seicento which so far is proving to be a much better car than a 6 year old Panda it replacedI am having the same issue as above. Is it dangerous to drive my Fiat if I do not get this fixed?
Thank you so much for your help I really appreciate the detailed response. I’m going to get a quote from a local fiat dealer and go from there, it sounds like this issue comes up a lot in fiats from what I’ve seen on this forum which is a real shame.
