Hi all, would anyone know how to prime and take the air out of the injector system? Doesn't appear to have a pump on it that i can find.

Hi, How did air get in there in the first place? I have a 1996 1.9td. When I got it, it came with a bubble type primer in the fuel line. It was poorly installed so I took it to be a previous owner installation. I removed it and now I never let the diesel run out. I've owned the van for 18 years without problem. Good Hunting, Ian.

Which engine Series and what injector pump etc.
Generally most TDs have an electric pump in tank but not all, so many have a hand primer near engine although I think the Lucas Epic pump had neither and was a pain.
I assume from what you are saying you are trying to start a "none runner" so assuming everything else on the engine is in good working condition you can either fit an inline hand primer like speed boat fuel tank squeezy bulb system or what I did on a troublesome 1.9 non turbo with Lucas Epic pump I gravity fed a can on the wing to the injector pump and with a good battery and all the four injector fuel unions slack, cranked the engine over until I could see fuel coming from injector unions and then on tightening them up whilst still cranking the engine it burst into life.
Note the can will soon run out as no return fuel supply , so then switch engine off and connect correct pipes and it should draw fuel through.
Also make sure no air leaks in pipe work anywhere. The original fault on this one was an air leak at the plastic connector seals of flow and return pipes at the fuel tank.
Another point, make sure you have a good fully charged battery and only crank engine for a short period at a time , then give starter a rest as they can overheat and you will destroy the starter.

Hi Ian, I have had the injection lines off and the fuel tank line off.

Thanks Mike, To be honest I don't know the engine series or injector system except that it was produced by bosch. I found perished fuel hoses on it which I have since replaced and trying to prime it to get it to run. It only has 2 electrical wires running to the fuel tank so assume its just the gauge sensor and no pump in the tank. I will look into the boat tank pump. Thanks for the help.

Hi geezpot, Have you solved your problem yet and, if so, how ?
Hi Cid, I spent hours doing my best to fill the lines with diesel. Eventually just used a can of engine start down the air filter intake. It started straight away and I kept spraying occasionally until it was idling by itself. I turned it off and on a few times and drove it around for an hour with no problems. Once I left it over night it is back to its old tricks so I pressume it's losing fuel pressure or sucking air while it sits. Now i have something to focus on I will get it resolved and add to this thread.

My guess is sucking in air.
