Failed to start last June. Was uplifted onto flatbed to a garage 1 hr away. Diagnosed timing chain issue. Took them 3 months, collected car and on the way home suspected DPF issue. Took it back, heard nothing so made surprise visit. Gone bust. Managed to retrieve car, still in limp mode. A local top class garage found 3 injectors weeping, split air intake pipe had been taped up, and DPF 80% blocked. Car much improved but has a misfire and no codes showing. Mileage is 135k, impression is engine is end of life. Does anyone know of a garage, preferably specializing in Pandas, that could fit a recon engine? Based Norfolk but prepared to travel.TIA.

Depending on where in Norfolk, the Fiat Workshop (also Alfa Workshop or Jamie Porter Ltd) just off the A10/A505 in Royston, North Herts is a good bet (fiat workshop.co.uk). Really 135,000 miles should be 'nothing' for a diesel that's been looked after -- double that and you might ask that question. Who taped up the split pipe? Before your time, or a bad choice of service agent? If bad agent, what else have they done badly...? HAs the oil been changed often enough with the right oil to keep the timing chain happy?
DPF '80%' blocked only shows that it hasn't done a regen for a while -- it's not good for the engine to do it too often so it waits until clogged a bit before it cleans, which it opts to do based on back pressure in the exhaust (there's a little pressure sensor on the bulkhead, curiously labelled Ford!). Don't know if 80% is bad or good, but shouldn’t be terminal. Failed glow plugs can lead to the system not doing a regen, and these can (and do) turn on during driving as well as starting in some situations to aid smooth ruinninwgon cold weather. My 2013 Defender showed 80% clogged and had three failed glow pugs. Glow plugs replaced and regens have occurred happily since, but not looked back to see degree of clogging between each one. Does the Panda misfire once fully warm?

Oh, just spotted - Norwich! A little over an hours drive to Royston, via A11, A10.
