Hi All I’m new to Fiat Forum came here via google after trying to fault find a Ducato issue
It’s a 2008 2.3 multi jet that’s on the front of our camper van
Never had any problems before but jumped in the camper the other day and the engine
Would not start not even a little cough
There was whining noise of sorts coming from under the bonnet that changed pitch after maybe 10 seconds
Turned ignition off and tried again still no joy not even a splutter
Attempt number 6 a she fired up as good as gold (thinking it was just one of those things)
A few days later the same thing happened only it took maybe 10 turns of the key before it fired up
And ran as normal
I’m thinking it’s got to be fuel pressure or some kind of relay sensor thing
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
I suspect from your use of the term "relay sensor", that you are not very familiar with modern deisel engines. So can we get down to basics, and suggest as a first move that you check the condition of the engine block earth strap. These earth straps are suffer from internal corrosion, and if faulty can cause various problems. This earth strap is in the main current return path from the starter motor to the battery.
As a quick check try connecting a heavy jump lead between an engine lifting lug, and a clean earth point on the chassis.
