Really don't think you can blame fiat on this one . You have had a third party alter the programming on the ecu which van have all sorts of knock on effects , which it appears to have done.
Maybe. But wouldn't you try fixing it or try getting it fixed, before taking it to the most expensive place last ?

I don't know what you are getting at.

You are in an unfortunate position because of the ecu situation reprogramming etc. If the ecu reprogrammers could access your ecu previously and kept copies of the original program and the program they loaded onto ecu perhaps they can recheck your ecu current program and if it has been corrupted? If they told you not to plug certain disconnected components back in they may know why they told you and be able to go from there.

You are probably in a unique situation.

There is not a simple answer-if I knew an answer I would tell you.

You may even end up with the original program loaded onto your ecu or a new ecu and having to find someone to reprogram the immobilizer system.

I wish you very best of luck.

Looking forward to hearing a successful outcome.

Best wishes

Actually I have found a simple solution to getting through mot test with mil acting as it currently is read section 8.2.2.2. Of the mot manual
You may have to print it out to show the tester before they conduct the test because 2004 diesel vehicles are less common these days.

The guy that disabled the immobiliser in ECU which did get the van started has saved the data and said to get another ECU which he will program. I've got one which I'll drop off to him Monday and see what happens.

The saga continues ! So the second ECU programmed and fitted. Van starts ok as before but still getting engine light on.
On key position 1 dash lights up but engine light goes out before van starts up. Which it shouldn't go out till started. Then as soon as I give it a quick press on throttle on it comes again !
Auto electricians and the one that programmed the second ECU are baffled too !Still No fault codes showing .
Maybe faulty immobiliser ? As that's where it all started with van, loads of crank not starting up, and code saying key/ immobiliser not recognised ! Or a broken wire maybe ? Just guessing as no fault codes showing.

After talking to a couple more autoelectricains at thier garages including the biggest in the area after telling them numerous code readers show no fault they didn't know what to do about it ! It seems that unless the code reader tells them what to do then they have no clue what to do about anything ? I thought some of the older guys would have a work around through experience but none have so far
Anyway I called in another place and they said book it in at start of March and they'll have a go at sorting it. So fingers crossed. In the meantime I'll have a word with the mot guy I use and quote what Jackwhoo suggested .

Yet another autoelectricains outfit at start of march with no idea why the engine light stays on !
Spoke to another last week that says he's been doing only autoelectrics for 20 years and after going through everything I've tried he reckons it's throwing a false light ? Take it for a long run to see if it clears. So drove it for 3 hours yesterday but the light is still on steady red. It drove great and the new turbo made a big difference on hills.
The light comes on every time , consistantly at key position 1 it goes off before cranking engine then stays off till either a quick blast on throttle or slow build up to 2500 revs.
Running out of auto electricians in the area now after 7 different ones

Next was we fitted a new turbo as the old ones actuator was seized for a long time.
The engine light would come on on long slow hills then go off when I eased off down gears.

Since getting it started again the engine light comes on at 3000 revs or if I give it a quick press on throttle.

New turbo is it over boosting?

Could be a good candidate for old school diagnosis - tee a gauge into the waste gate control capsule pipe and check the boost pressure under load, someone else driving

Thanks for reply jackwhoo.
I changed map sensor after no fault codes showing just In case. But possible 2 were faulty I suppose ?
No idea about turbo overboost ? But I'll mention it to mechanic boy that's been helping me.
I like the sound of old school check you mention (y) I'll try anything to fix that light.

Just checked. It was coming on before I changed the turbo ?

Out of curiosity, when I took it for a long run the temperature settled at just under half way on the gauge, what temp do the fans kick on ? They were off when I stopped but van wasn't overheating.
