Hi all!

I'm currently viewing a 2015 Fiat 500X Cross Plus for sale cheaply as the engine randomly turns off.

Information I've received from the seller tells me she has had the grounding cable replaced and factory reset the car.

It also says "drive mode unavailble.

She has not taken it to a Fiat dealership.

I've read in multiple places that this issue can be fixed by replacing the thermostat.

I've also read the transmission may need reprograming or the wiring replaced however I am betting on the former thermostat issue.

Can anyone provide any suggestions/comments on this issue to assist me?

Thanks!

I would ask her to get it checked out by a Fiat dealer, or somebody with the necessary knowledge and Diagnostic kit. Also get a copy of the associated report.

Sometimes things can be simple and readily fixed. Other times it can prove expensive. You need to make a personal decision based on facts.

Thanks, agreed I think it is best for a dealership to provide a proper diagnosis.

Generic mechanics/auto elecs wouldn't have Fiat/Alfa kit.

As is well documented on the interwebs, the issue was a faulty thermostat that caused the vehicle to think it was blisteringly hot outside (even for Australia).

Thus it would shut down to preserve itself. All fixed now at a dealership.
