Hi Everyone,

I've just been quoted, £549 for an enhanced service and timing belt/water pump change from my local Fiat Dealer. A breakdown is £199 for the enhanced service (parts included) and £350 for the timing belt/water pump. This seems a bit excessive?

Any thoughts?

Not sure on costs but why do you need to change the timing belt/pump on a 4 year old car?

Costs are all right at an official dealer, a broken belt will cost much more..
4 year, is the belt interval from Fiat...( it's milage, OR time..)
So I just checked the book and I read it as every 120000 Kms but then noticed the * which then goes to say every 4 years for harsh environments or city driving or every 5 years regardless.

Not very long life expectancy for such a critical engine component, shame on you FIAT. For my other car its 100000 miles or 10 years, no ifs or buts.

It's been for years like this with Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia, you should have known before buying...!!

(Btw, for the DOHC engines it's 60.000km, and not 120.000, or three years, no mather what the book says...)

Thanks for your input everyone. The car is actually 4.5 years old, it'll be 5 in March. It spends it's life on the motorway.

What really baffles me is they advise to change it earlier if it's mainly used on short/town journeys. Surely the belt us under less stress compared to spinning quick when on the motorway?

I'm wanting to change cars next year, so do I leave it, as it may be under the 72k mile limit when I part ways with it, or have it done, presumably the car will be better to sell as it's another 4 years peace of mind?

Is the 1.4 8 valve FIRE engine a non interference engine?

Even motorway use in Europe is considered "heavy circumstances" by Fiat.
I wouldn't risk it, and have it professionally changed...
