Off Topic consequences of not servicing!!!!!

Been getting some odd jobs this week :ROFLMAO: and this chap was about to present it for mot  told him not to bother as the mounting point on the rear beam is actually missing as though its fractured and disappeared along with the shock and its lower bolt  and the bloke who owned it reckons its had no work done on it in the last year since its previous mot but i cant believe a tester would of missed that:rolleyes: basically it needs another rear beam :D:D

The rear shocks on my Cinq leaked at some point, dunno when, we were doing another job and my Dad noticed they seemed a bit iffy. Took them off and you could push them in and out with your arms, no effort required  so pretty much the same as that Punto.

Annoyingly "fixing" it make it handle worse, as it was then sitting higher up :p

A warning to everyone out there who believes the speed limits don't apply to them as they know their capabilities.
I suspect matey in OP's first post simply thought that topping up the oil now and then was all he had to do to service the car as it was otherwise running fine.
Can you imagine the carnage if they were thrashing it around somewhere and the lump decided it had had enough?
As I always say, YOU might be fine, but for every handful of good cars out there I'll bet there's one shed, dropping oil & grease all over the road and/or holding onto 'life' by the skin of the duct tape.
(I spend much of my day driving in and around housing estates - amazing how many patches of oil you see from where people obviously park their motors overnight.)

If the engine let go how is it going to cause carnage? ive had loads of engines let go on me from a cylinder head coming thru the bonnet to conrods going thru the blocks and every variation in between but none have ever caused carnage!!!!!
no oil has ever been put in it and after going thru chaps service history im thinking that his last service was more like 7 years ago:eek::eek::eek: and he stated that all he ever did was put an air filter in it 4 years ago:cry::cry:

What if it happened on the M1 in the middle of the day, when it's packed?

Or, it was been the few times I've been on it, I tend to avoid it now...

i had an ibiza 1043i lump let go on the M6 in the fast lane overtaking a lorry that was overtaking a lorry. It siezed three cylinders and needed a total rebuild.

all that happens is it is like running out of petrol. you have to coast to the hard shoulder. i managed to do it safely, just have to be prepared that you have to work the brakes harder as no servo assist.

I had an old orion:eek::eek: years ago and was flying back up the M1 at 7pm and then suddenly the crank and pistons chose to exit the engine thru the sump and splatter themselves between junction 8 and 9 and that never caused any carnage had the same happened with my old rover v8 powered capri and guess what no carnage.the only time carnage would happen is down to the other drivers over reacting and causing the problems themselves.ive seen lots of cars expire on motorways and never any carnage:rolleyes:

Ok as everyone gets asked when did you last service your car at some point:p well this is car i have had in at work today to find out why oil pressure light was coming on  doesnt sound promising to start with but thinking dodgy oil pressure switch  anyway breathers were cracked as well so took them off and all blocked up so took cam cover off and well pics say the rest and this hadnt been serviced for 2 years and had covered 70000 miles:mad: got to strip sump off tomorrow:yum::yum:
JUST LET THIS BE A WARNING TO EVERYONE...SERVICE REGULARLY:D:D
Vehicle is a 2003 Honda CRV!!!! and i dont think its going to be economically viable to repair:eek::eek:

****

i do wonder about some people, they seem to forget oil is abig part of keeping the car healthy, specially if you have a turbo, ill service my alfa every 5000miles, theres no harm in it, just a bit of money..atleast the turbo and engine will have nice oil.

I do oil and filter on my cinq every 3000 miles maximum or every 2 months which ever comes first :D:D doesnt help the oil getting so hot sitting in london traffic(y)prevention is far better than a cure!!!!!

So, you're booting down a busy motorway - with everyone else hanging off your backside - and suddenly the engine dies.
You go from 70 (or much more in a lot of cases) to the car decellerating of its own accord.
I've seen plenty of shunts where people have applied their brakes, simply from everyone else driving too close, never mind a vehicle suddenly losing impetus without rear lights warning others.
Every time I go on the motorway, without fail, I see long trains of traffic in lane 3, all tailgating and all hanging on the lights of those in front.

And, yes, I've had it happen to me whereby a timing chain skipped a few teeth, bent every valve stem & gouged every piston - but I was lucky that those behind me were far enough back that my sudden decelleration didn't impact on them & I could also hit my hazards.
I've also had tyres blow out & not have a problem - but I have seen others career across the motorway when a tyre blows.
Remember, it's not always how YOU drive, it's all the rest.

A simple blowout on the M25, for example. In the initial moments of the film, that stretch of road looks unbelievably clear (compared to how it normally is) and yet another vehicle came a cropper (van ended up on its side)
