Can anyone help me with my 2008 3ltr Ducato Comfortmatic problem?
I left my van overnight in gear as it says in the owners manual. When I started the engine it started with a clunk followed by warning beep and CHECK TRANSMISSION display
I tried to put it into gear and got GEAR NOT AVAILABLE display on dash. I contacted a mobile mechanic who came out to me and bled the clutch fluid but the fault was still there. He then connected the MultiECUscan to the system and found that the clutch speed was not going to zero as it should it was running at the same speed as the engine so it would not engage the gears. He then told me that the plastic washers on the friction plate were breaking up and jamming the clutch so it needed a new clutch. He could not do the clutch as he was mobile and did not have a workshop. I have been trying to get a garage in central Scotland area to do this with no success . Does anyone know of a garage that can help preferably in Glasgow area.
Thanks
Ron

Hello,

The conformatic gearbox needs regular and precise servicing.

Yes, clutch rpm not going to zero is a sign that the clutch has not disengaged. But there may be more than one reason for this to happen. According to reports in various forums, the problems with broken plastic spring holders in the clutch plate is mostly known for Ducatos at least 5 years newer than yours. Has the clutch plate been replaced sometime or is it still the original one?

I have just had a new clutch kit fitted the mechanic says the fault was the clutch release bearing had colapsed. I can now select Neutral / reverse / 1st gears with no dash fault lights or warnings. I now have another fault it will not change up to any of the other gears automatically or manually when driving it stays in 1st gear . Does the ECU need to be reset after the gearbox has been removed and refitted or is there a fuse or relay that controls the automatic gearshift side of things. Could there be a wiring connection that would affect this. The system hydraulics and clutch fluids are now OK .

There are a couple of calibration procedures that should be executed after changing the clutch. Skipping them would lead to poor clutch engagement/disengagement but it's hard to say if it also would impact the gear selection and engagement processes since these involves other valves, sensors and actuators.
Yes, there could definitely be a wiring connection that is causing the problem. Apart from trial and error plus luck, it might be very hard to pinpoint the cause without a proper diagnostic tool, e.g. MES, to check for error codes and parameter values during a test drive; plus the knowledge needed to interpret the readings.

Hi I have now invested in MES when checking the gearbox ti comes up with two fault codes P2904 andP0856.
It says the reason for this error is that ECU did not receive signal from the sensor.
Can anyone tell me what sensor or connection to it is at fault and where on the gearbox is it fitted?

Hydraulic circuit pressure should be from 30-something up to 40-something (I don't remember the exact values) Bar, not zero as your screen shows. Worth investigating.

Just guessing:
I had the impression that lack of hydraulic pressure would prevent the start-up enable relay to activate and hence the engine would not start. But your display shows engine speed 800rpm…
Perhaps activation of the start-up enable relay is ”hardwired” to the pressure sensor and there is sufficient pressure in the system, but the signal from the sensor does not reach the ECU?
Or perhaps, since I assume it's freeze frame values shown, was the pressure OK until gear change was requested and then dropped suddenly to zero? That could indicate a faulty pressure accumulator.

It would be interesting to see a recording of all parameter values (MES normally saves a file with all values when you use the Parameters function and select All). Sequence: ignition on, start MES and select all parameters, wait 30 seconds, start engine, wait 30 seconds, request gear change, wait 30 seconds, finish.
