I have got a new product at www.cartel-parts.com for the Fiat 500, I have been asked if I can get these...so I did.
I know lots of people dont like them but I am sure some will like them.
The cost is £65 but for forum members it will be £60.
I know maxi will want to buy a few as he always likes this sort of thing so get your orders in quick...

Agree, but when you're running a business as RUI is doing I guess you can't afford to be the fashion police when you're making a profit out of it ;)

Having just read the sticky about keeping on-topic and things not descending into smut - I just about dared to open this topic up, as the title made me laugh. You see this is me (slightly off here only for a moment): I was seriously trying to think what Dutch food actually was (as I'd searched out the asian restaurants whilst I was there, not wanting frites with everything) when we were passing a restaurant on the approach to Southampton called "A Taste of Amsterdam" - hubby had to put me right when he assumed it was not actually a restaurant... How was I to know? It was just a dark glass windowed place with title in bronze metal letters above it, just like a restaurant... So me for one am glad of moderation on FF and thankful.
On topic again:
So I thought, something metal needing a bra - what on earth is a car-bra? I have to have this one seriously wrong too. So much relieved to see it's quite obvious, so thanks for bringing this item to our attention.

In the 3.5 years I've been ogling the second-hand F500's at my local dealership I've seen so many horribly pitted bonnets. Once we saw a Pasadoble and a Calypso side by side with chips all over them right down to the metal - in exactly the same area the car-bra covers. We're talking about 30 on each, we stopped counting past 20.
It kind of put me off a lot for a while - now I'd found my dream-car I'd be devastated if it chipped each time I went out practically:eek:. I think that on the black car shown, it looks kind of masculine If I were going on a driving holiday or planning on lots of motorwaying - I might say to "the bowels of the earth" with it, I'll get one. Not so keen on black for my R-Red though, but if it came in other colours (yes, red) then would consider one for day-trips. But then again I'm at that newbie stage of seriously considering laying out a set of cones around and raising a mini-marquee each time I park my gem up...

Will keep an eye out in this section - but for now thanks for letting us know about this new bit of "outerwear" !

Good news TheCurleyOne they do come in red....They even come in snake skin.
The cost is £10 extra for the colours.

I've done over 28k miles in my car and only have a handful of chips on the bonnet and the worst is somewhere even a car bra wouldn't protect. It really is all down to how closely you follow behind other cars, obviously you're going to get a chip one day, but if you don't follow other cars closely then you'll get far far less stonechips on the car.

If you really want to worry about stonechips, check out the area of the body just behind the bottom rear corner of the doors, 500's chip like buggery there.

I'd love one of these simply to cover the huge stone chip that's been badly repaired on my bonnet but they don't seem to make them for the Yaris :( I really liked yours on the 500!

Lloyd I do them for the Yaris £60 to you.

RUI - great picture of your 500 and the bra suits the car well particularly in that black colour. There is something quite nice about it and brings back some of the nostalgic of the VW Bettle. The last 500 that I had - had a lot of stone chips on the bonnet (it was black as well). It was primarily from the last owner who was probably priming himself to overtake a lot of slow lorries that you can get down the country. The chips on the front bumper were not as bad because with the plastic bumper it didn't chip as badly as the metal bonnet. I'd imagine that are some colour / paint finishes were it would be very worthwhile buying one.
Couple of questions...
How thick is the material and and how much protection would it actually give ?
What stops the bra marking the paint on the bonnet - do you have to heavily wax the bonnet before it goes on ?
The strap that goes under the bonnet - could it withstand the heat from say a turbo e.g. on the A500 ?
With the 2 'lips' on top of the bra - any impact on the CD figure (drag co-efficient) on the car ?

loveshandbags, Thanks i am glad you like the photo.
The material is just over 1.5mm thick and has a felt on the back so it should give some good protection.
Again the felt on the back should stop any damage to the cars paintwork...but make sure you put it on a clean car.. It is machine washable so if it does get dirty then put it in the wash.
The instructions dont say anything about having to wax it before hand...but my car has always got about 4 coats of wax on it.
They make them for lots of cars and a lot of them are turbos so I guess they should be OK for the Abarth.
The two lips are to stop it flapping around at high speed but I have found that they also stop a lot of the bugs hitting the screen.
As for the CD figure I have no idea..but I can only guess that it will give you an extra 15MPH* and save you 20MPG*

*these figures could be made up by me

That's awesome, will have to wait until after my girlfriend's birthday to get one though, if that's okay? Will you still be able to get hold of them in about a month?

I think I'm going to take the plunge on this car and get back into modding. A slight lowering, new wheels (T-Sports) and subtle body mods. :) And a car bra of course.

the amount of tat that exists for the Beetle is amazing. I'm constantly amazed at the crap that the Beetles around here are slathered in.

VW got that model wrong. The only one that worked was the convertible and that had to have the a turbo diesel engine to get it going.
