I drive a 2017 Vauxhall Combo D. It’s been great, and haven’t I had to do much work on it for years.

However, I now have an engine management light on and a message saying to check engine, so I need to read codes. My OBD2 code reader won’t connect. (This is the code reader I used with my old 2007 astra).

Is there a compatibility issue between my current van and fault code reader?

My Maxiecu scan tool works on Fiat 1.6 Doblo MJs and most other Fiats , but will not work on a 2014 Vauxhall Combo 1.3MJ even though they are basically the same model but "badge engineered", I think for me it is because they read the Vin Number stored in ECU which tells them it isn't a Fiat:(
Also I am not sure if relevant but around 2018 some manufacturers brought out some kind of Security Gateway to make it harder to read the ECUs without extra cost.
