Hi folks,

I bought a replacement brake master cylinder for my 1992 Panda 1000 FIRE, but it's slightly different to what's come off the car. Can anyone confirm if it's a straight swap?

The new part looks the same as what other retailers are selling for the same car. Dragon Man also has a useful youtube vid showing a cylinder like what I've received in the post.

Differences are:
1) The old one has an output hole on its END, whereas this hole is on the TOP of the new one (annoying as it means the pipe will need re-routing).
2) The old one has two central holes in the middle, only one of them is threaded. The new ones seems to have two similar holes in the middle.

Any ideas? Have I got a cylinder for a Panda 4x4? Is it compatible? And if not, where can I buy one that fits, because all the pictures I can see from online sellers aren't the same as the one that's come off.

This one looks even more different, and costs about 5 times more than the one I've got, but claims to be compatible.

Get a new one that is exactly the same as the old one.

Sorry, no help here just empathy! Its a minefield buying aftermarket parts which claim to be compatible, sometimes they are even though looking different, sometimes they are not even though looking the same. :bang:

When I replaced my rear brake lines I bought a new T-connector for where the pipe splits to go to the wheels, looked identical, could not get it to seal... turned out (as advised on here) that the female threaded sections were just a couple of mm longer then the old one! Just destroyed a brand new heater matrix which claimed to be compatable, cut off an extra plastic bit the old one didn't have and bust a hole in it :(

Good luck with the master cylinder, I'll be interested to see how you get on, might do my front brake lines in the next year or so and might even do the master cylinder too while I'm there!

Thanks Phiz. It's a bummer. You often come across weird compatibilty issues with old Land Rovers (more familiar territory for me than old Fiats) but on LRs the problem is huge tolerances from factory. If it doesn't fit you just knock it around a bit until it does! Can't really do that with a master cylinder...

I do say in my original post that I can't find any for sale which look the same as the original one. Hence the problem.
Keep looking until you do find the correct one.

Look on eper to find the correct fiat part number , then cross reference that number to other manufacturers.

Look up BMC4028 at brakes international website . Let me know if that looks same as one you need.

The expensive one you posted the link to is the right one if you don't have a servo fitted and the master cylinder is fitted immediately behind the pedal. The splitter on top allows both front brake pipes to exit to the right which is what your fluid reservoir looks like it was designed for.

Thanks. Unfortunately though the original isn't designed to have a splitter because one of the pipes comes out of the END of the cylinder.

jackwhoo suggested Brakes International, but I've tried them and they don't have it.

Look on eBay for fiat strada master cylinder find one that looks exactly like the one you want. I think the part number you need is 791513
About £12 plus £6 delivery

If you need to blank one of the ports in center use either a correctly size bleed nipple or blanking plug.
Brakes international can do these .

Brake parts.co.uk show they are back in stock at £25 too

There's obviously something weird going on here with your original setup. The expensive one you linked to is the same as the original you've got pictured. Look at the layout - one pipe out the end as you said, feeding the rear circuit and the cutout in the reservoir to accommodate the V splitter coming out of the single outlet in the top of the cylinder. The splitter has been removed from the cylinder in your pics, now does that mean it is still attached to the end of the pipes in the car, or from how you are talking was there only a single pipe going in that top outlet suggesting someone's messed about with it previously. No matter what the model there should be 3 pipes coming out, a single to the rear that splits at the rear axle, and a separate line for the left and right front calipers.

Is the one the op requires. It has an outlet inline with the piston bore.

I suggest using pekidi(.)com with your VIN number to get the correct part number, works for me everytime.
