does anyone know what size adapter i need todo the brake fluid on a '69 500L? I have a Motive Power Bleeder, but the adapter i have is way too big. thoughts?
 
Hi F30M, check the type of fluid reservoir you have look up prices for a replacement. All I did was to obtain a new reservoir and modify the 'old' cap to use the bleeder, when done replace the new cap and keep the spare reservoir!!! It's a simple way to get the correct size of fitting without having the faff and it's future proof!!!

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with the power bleeder for the 500. I have one for my Cayman, but the volume of the Fiat's brake system is so small, it's easy enough to just top off every now and then. As far as I could tell, there are no Motive fittings that will fit the 500's MC. They will make you a custom one (for $$$) if you send them dimensions/spare cap/something (it's on their site). I debated getting a spare cap and making my own power bleeder fitting, but I don't think I'd trust the reservoir threads on these old parts to not give way and spew brake fluid.
 
The old fashioned manual pedal pushing way
A small diameter, clear piece of tubing is put over the bleed nipple and led into a container. You have one person IN the car---you have one person at the brake (FURTHEST from the master cylinder). The person at the wheel shouts "DOWN" and opens the bleed nipple---the person in the car pushes down on the brake pedal, HOLDS it down and says "down". The person at the wheel then closes the bleed nipple and when it is closed, says "up"--the person in the car takes their foot off the brake pedal and says"up" This simple proceedure is repeated until clean, new brake fluid comes out of the bleed nipple. This proceedure is repeated at all 4 corners, finishing at the wheel NEAREST the master-cylinder. As well as looking for new brake fluid, one must check that no air bubbles are coming down the clear tubing (the reason why you must use clear tubing). You only need to open the bleed nipple about 3/4 turn for this proceedure. Tedious, slow, but very effective.
