benny279 hows the car after yesterday mate?

She's okay just injured and got party at blame to cough up £550 for the repairs, if you haven't already seen the worse piccie of the damage here it is:

Booked in for 17th June (as that was the only earliest available slot)

I'm just recovering from the shock myself.

benny279 this is a sad day :( that you are going to sell your beloved punto and even totally move away from fiat's but obviously you have your reasons and i respect that and them its just a little sad,

on a hopeful side though once you have recovered from your crash prehaps you will change your mind and wont be able to part from her ^^ remember punto's are like a fine wine they mature with age or was that women :p

please don't shoot me for that quote hahaha

Beyre83

:( how come you decided that? Gutted to hear it mate!

Don't get me wrong and that goes for anyone really, Fiat's are lovely, fun, great cars but I just want to move onto another car which yes won't be a Fiat but my Punto would still live on in someone elses hands and be loved just as much! :)

But as I said that won't stop me from coming on this great forum, and checking out peoples Puntos (y)

This has nothing to do with the crash, although it has affected me in a bad way I'm just about recovered and back on the roads again, but more of a cautious driver now which is a good thing to be honest.

As I said on previous post, Fiat's are lovely, fun great cars! I once use to dis Fiat's when I owned a Vaxuhall Corsa B '96 which then I scrapped back in 2011 and got my lovely Punto MK2 which I've looked after since day one, and I just feel its time to move on :)

Again, I will still be here to help other MK2 owners and check out peoples MK2's :)

benny279 haha Corsa B 96 i had a Red P Reg one you can actually see it on Google Maps where i used to live on there street view, but it was used a as work van so really a shed.... but ill throw a piccy in for the sake of it
corsab_zps8ed5c62d.jpg

yes they are Astra Alloys on it, as i got a astra when my corsa b head gasket blew, then the astra died so i scraped it with the corsa steelys on and put the astra alloys on the Corsa B and the pipe on the roof is for pipes or conduit used it for conduit being a sparky and yes its over 3 meters long and no it did not protrude the front of the headlight so it was not illegal / a mot failure but i took it off when going for a mot anyway but as you know corsa's are not long so it was hard to get it on there and be legal :p by trade not a beauty winner but it was a work horse :)

Except mine was a bag of poo! Ran like a bucket of nails :D

Failed mot with a nasty 26 faults, under chassis rusty, brake pipes corroded badly, shocks leaking, major oil leak, I could go on!!! Aha but you get the idea

I'd say my punto has been such a joy :)
Its still here until a new car replaces her as sad as it is but we all have to move on?

Benny

You'll still be more than welcome at meets, as well, of course... -- just please don't buy another Vauxhall (unless it's a Viva...)! (y)

PS: Just noticed that this was my 2,000th post. Crivens. :D

No its not another vauxhall :p I'm going for a Ford Focus '05 1.6l wherever people dislike those cars, I personally like them it was the first car I drove :)

And glad I'd be welcomed! Ill just have to park awat from the fiats eh? :D

benny279 True that,

well my Corsa was mint when i got him,

but this is demise of my corsa,

it was 96 P Auto. was used to work for a waste management company doing weighbridges weighing in lorry's and also for there I.T Department and one day i was travling from the head office to a remote site and mr Tom Tom, told me to go down this bridal path didnt know it at the time so i was driving down it but it was single track so i couldnt turn around it was over winter so there was ice on the mud track covering deep holes again didnt know how deep, and well i thought he was a 4x4 ahaha went plowing through them got almost out then i think water got in to the spark plugs lost power and he took on water like a sinking boat. it was basicly upto my knees so that wrote of the gearbox ecu.

Got that replaced after drying it out some farmer came and towed me out and i explained about the sat nav and he said you are not the only one to get caught out the car didnt start got a jump but as the ecu was shot it was in limp mode, replaced the ecu, from a scrappy about £65 iirc, then when working on the weigh bridge close to my home like 8min walk, there was a guy there he had like 2004 seat leon in yellow colour and he was on one side of the weigh bridge i was the other side, we went raceing, i took the corner to fast hit the curb and planted it on a fence poped a tyre, car didnt drive, so we got it towed to the work carpark with a tractor, lol rac man cam out next day i had poped the front passanger side wheel out of the drive shaft, lol.

didnt know at that time the raidiator was leaking but it had lost fluid he filled it and said it should be fine now to drive, ovbviously it wasnt so i was driving it to the repair shop and well the head went so had it towed to the garage was only like 5mins away from there, new radiator then had to get the head done cost like 600 only paid 700 for it in the first place, then i was at a friends house left the engine running got distracted an hour later i came out to the car to find clouds of white smoke pouring from the engine oh **** head cracked so i basicly sold it to the garrage as i was not about to get another gasket done, got the astra had that like 3weeks but it was not running properly i kept changeing plugs as they were getting really black, then it turns out one of the spark plug ends had snapped off went in the engine and tore it up like swiss cheese.

So then, i bought the corsa back from the garage that did the head on it as they were useing it as a curtosy car, i replaced the front bumper on it from when i hit the fence from ebay pre primed but never bother to CC it thats hy you can see a grey primed bumper on the front of it, but then the car was oh again even though it had a new stat put in, so i take the plug for the fan off the electrical connector strip the wires, wire the ground to the battery took the +12v feed and being a sparky i wired it up to a 10amp mk grid switch inside the cab and i switched the fan on and off as needed if i was in traffic i would switch it on as it still had temprature issues, then i had lost faith in it as even with the replaced ecu if it was a cold start it would go into limp mode then idd have to resart the engine and hope it would clear.

Then i got a 1.9 TDI ford galaxy had it about a week went to drive it home to show my mum and dad, and it lost power steering was like a tank and it burnt the starter cable to a cripsp, but it had dealer waranty it was a 2000 ford galaxy with some gentle pushing they repleaced the engine from a golf as it was a vw engine in it, had it till 2011 nice car then the auto box packed in, so got a ford galaxy v reg for 1 grand that is still running but its not cost effective for me so i gave it to my dad its a 2.8 v6 does like 18-22mpg on short runs does better on long runs, then i got my now and current mk2b punto which is in alot better condition than any of my previous cars and i will look after it i have learned from my many mistakes oh and both galaxys were top of the range ghia's

sorry for the long winded post

I dont know to take that as a hint to put me off Fords or not? But I've worked on many cars and as I said focus '05 or '06 was the first car I drove as a learner but still fab car! And im heading in that direction wherever people disagree with my move or not, but at the end of the day a car is a car im not buying to please anyone but myself as I personally like those cars always have done, I brought my mk2 as a 2nd car to be a runaround nothing more but that changed as I started modding it and modding it:) yeah shes not the most modded punto on this forum, some people on this forum have done fantastic work on their puntos me im just into subtle mods haha so mine just dont top other peoples work!

But I agree look after it and it'll look after you! Mines done that its looked after me but its come to that time:(

Benny

I'm going for a Ford Focus '05 1.6l... I personally like them it was the first car I drove :)

Nothing wrong with that. It's why I have a huge soft spot for Mk2 Escorts...! (I even owned a couple....) :)

And glad I'd be welcomed! Ill just have to park awat from the fiats eh? :D

You can always stick a FIAT badge on the front.... ;)

benny279 nah dont worry the mk1 Galaxys were a partnership between Ford, VW, and at that time Seat, to compete with the toyota people carrier at that time, so it was 90% VW based just with ford badges and stuff

the reason the gearbox is a bit pants is they use the AG4 Auto box, same that is used in the golf and polo, and really that gearbox was never designed for such a hulking big car, also the engine was a vw tdi, iirc only the 2.3 was a ford engine the 2.8 is a vw, the 1.9 tdi is a vw, not saying anything is wrong with ford, i think all makes and marks can have problems but its useually down to crap maintinance and people blame the brand rather than them selfs, its really luck of the draw what you get when you buy a second hand car, you pays your price and takes a risk

i mean if you read all the various forums and stuff on any make of car then you would never buy a car as someone always has something bad to say about something about the car never really hear the positive comments,

the reason i went for a punto was because they are fairly cheep to maintain, good fuel economy cheep to insure, and tax, and it was the cheepest VED car i could afford for my budget circa 2k paid 2195 for her but she is on good condition

so am happy with her and she got a 3 month dealer warranty but its a inhouse one not some external company and they said it covers absolutly everything on the car, even got that in writing as they have there own in house mechanic so if anything did go wrong in side the 3months i would get it fixed FOC so can't complain at that and i got them to throw in a years mot as it ran out and 6months road tax into the deal

so fairly well chuffed with it

Well ill be going for the focus which have their name for being very reliable, cheap on tax and insurance, yes bigger engine than my punto but only 1.6l to give me that extra power I need :) I will always love the punto mk2s, itd be a sad day when I sell it!:(

Ah the ol escorts my mums friend use to have one he even let me test drive it, such fun car! :p

Fiat badge on a Ford im sure Id get a lot of hate from the fellow ford lovers out there, as no doubt id join a ford forum

benny279 when i enter my car reg on parts websites and even when i entered the cars reg on my insurence company website it lists it as this "2005 FIAT PUNTO 16V DYNAMIC (MANUAL / PETROL)" yes its 2005 yes its a fiat punto, yes its 16v, yes its dynamic, but its a god damn automatic.... do not have the log book yet to check what it says in it, but the vin is correct and matches all the previous mot's mileage all checks out... just wonding why it's insisting its a manual on any website that looks cars up via reg plates? oh and no its not stolen i did have a check done on it :p and the reg plate matchs the vin, and the vin on the plate and the vin has not been removed and re attached hahaha
