Technical Banging out dent in spare wheel well

MKenny Bräck sustained a force of 214G in 2003 in a 200mph crash and suffered multiple fractures all over his body, he survived but he certainly didn't walk away, so yes you can find exceptions to the rule but what you can't say is 200G is a cut off for survivability.

It was really just an example, hence the qualifier 'if'. I don't dispute your position at all, or any of the rest of your post really.

In 2005 the Megane scored 5 stars:

The current Megane is a 3 star car:

http://www.euroncap.com/results/renault/megane/555.aspx

So the 2005 Megane is a 2 star car at best if retested to the current standard. Most of the discrepancy comes from the Pedestrian and Safety Assist categories. The S-Class hasn't been tested by Ncap, I'd imagine it's features are so far in advance of Ncap that it would be irrelevant.

The safest car I could find is the Golf, but look at the Chev Aveo:

http://www.euroncap.com/results/chevrolet/aveo/2011/437.aspx

93% in safety assist without lane departure warning, autonomous braking or anything out of the norm. There's still a lot of relativity in the ratings.

one of the main reasons the Citan performed so badly looking at the retest comments from ncap and Mercedes was its lack of electronic devices and child restraint systems...... Things that the 2008 Kangoo had back in 2008, when retested with the additional updates the citan scored a kangoo equalling 4 stars. the structure of the car was basically unchanged. Another reason for the citans poor first performance was an issue with the deployment of the curtain airbag, which repeatedly got caught on the upper seatbelt anchorage point, again this was fixed for the retest but it's not something that the 2008 kangoo suffered from.

Basically from this you could argue that a 2008 kangoo performed much better in the actual crash tests than the 2012 citan and on paper performed better with the additional devices and safety equipment, the citans failures and poor performance therefore had nothing to do with the crash test parameters but was because of failures in the citans design over the older kangoo. Making it unfair to say that the older kangoo would perform any worse in a current test than a current citan

Aye, always safety first that's for sure & I don't mean that in jest, but as usual one extreme to another, especially so with the VW under the lorry, erm a tad extreme to say the least. No amount of special polish or cream will solve this I know, but one extreme to another as I say.

Perhaps Mr common sense has indeed left the building...
