I am defo thinking 15's for the GP Wheels next week but the problem is all of the shops (like Halfords) have 17's everywhere so it's hard to see what they will look like.

Anybody got any Fox FX2 - or TSW Freeze - or anything? Mine's Azure Blue (I think that's right) so thinking somethink with black or darker bits might look cool. Or dishy?

Also does anybody run 195/50 x 15's. I know they should be 195/60 x 15 but the tyres will be cheaper and by my reckoning it will just mean that when the speedo says 80mph it will be nearer 75mph. In some ways no bad thing?

Noticed some people are moaning about too many threads about wheels. Could we not have a Wheels and Tyres Sub Section. I'm feeling where you are coming from but this is the only place to post.

Thanks in advance!

Rick

1.2 8v. Seems fine - not bothered about the speed but I reckon 17's might blunt the performance too much?

I do however think you might be right...:)

Considered the 195/60 R15 as a possible replacement for my OE 175/65 R15 Cinturato P4s on GP 1.2/8v – but decided to keep within the handbook or manual spec. & go for the listed alternative 185/65 R15.

On brand I considered the Maloya & the Kumho – but opted for the (Goodyear-Dunlop Group) Fulda EcoControl (that I’ve experienced with my Mk2B) thro a (Goodyear-Dunlop) HiQ Centre franchise.

Keeping everything within a Goodyear-Dunlop envelope results in the 185/65 R15 coming out at £43ea inc. fitting.

Check-out the HiQ site - as an example if you want something in the high performance category then 195/55 R15 or 195/60 R15 Fulda *Carat Progresso come out at £50 (+/- £1) inc. fitting.

* “… doesn’t match the best on test for grip but is none the less a reasonable tyre. It wears very well and this, combined with its ultra low price, makes it the best-value tyre in this size [205/55R16].” Tread carefully Which? March 2007

If you can standby for 7 days then the 2009 tyre test results will be published.

Theres not that much performance to blunt lol 15s look ok but nowadays you can get 17s cheap enough but make sure you get the right size tyres as alot of companies put 205/40/17 on and it looks wrong! makes the wheels look tiny.

I've recently put my steelies on after running my alloys for nearly 2years and to be honest its not that much of a difference but if you have a 1.2 active like me then you don't have much in terms of performance so don't worry about it go for looks!

Thanks guys. It's a tough decision. I thought 205/40x17 was right - suppose it should be 205/45 but only a couple of mm....

Don't want to kill a gearbox - don't want to spend loads - just can't bear to have a car without alloys. This will be the first set in my 20 years of driving. I've spent hours on Rimstyle, bought Max Power for the first time in years, Demon Tweeks, Edition 38 since I'm addicted to VW's and even had a peek on wheelwhores.com. I even watched Fast and the Furious yesterday. All getting too much...:bang:

Time to make a decision hence wondered if anybody had any photos of any aftermarket 15's on their cars. I think if lowered a bit the right wheels might look ok.

1.2 goes fine - I've had and have still got more powerful cars but the roundabouts are making me smile for the first time in years.....just hand me those Yokohama tyres....presume they still make the one's that last about 3000 miles and are dreadfull in the wet?

Yes I know 15's are not big enough and don't really fancy 16's. I don't know why not but I just don't! It's going to have to be 17's. 400 quid for a set of Dezent Motion - probably silver - maybe black with red hoops. They are supposed to be quite light wheels - about 7.3kg's each.

I think some of you guys have got it right - quality does seem good on OEM rims.

Get 16's for sure with a decent profile will look good and not send you in with a nackered gearbox.

Thanks for all the advice guys.... back on the bloody 15's again. Like the idea of spending no more than (or about 300 quid).

My latest trick is to spend even more hours than normal on Ebay. Back to work next week so I'll go and gibber there instead!

I have recently gone from 15"s to 16"s as I didn't want to take the risk with the 17"s. Here are a couple of pictures that may help you make your mind up...

I don't mind selling my 15"s as well, if you are interested.

Nice car mate, does look alot better. What size tyres did you put on them tho?
