I've been told there are different types of antifreeze and not to use the wrong one. What antifreeze do I need for this car? I've heard carplan is rubbish?
Any links would be appreciated thanks

Blue and Green is a 2 year life span anti-freeze

Red/Pink is the 5 year OAT mixtures that tbh, are worth it if you have done suitable maintaince :)

You cant mix colours, they react with each other, even same coloured but different brands can, but not as likely
Any Antifreeze is better then NO antifreeze

My advice
Drain - flush - Refill :)

My other advice is this - make sure you get neat stuff, and mix it with De-ionised water yourself = More for your money :)

theres is an antifreeze that will mix with any type but cant remember the make

as asked what colour as a starter do you have at the mo
?

it should be red

So would I just get this (halfords .com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductMobileDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=219524&categoryId=255224&langId=-1)mix it 50/50 with water and pour it in?

I feel really stupid but have never troubled antifreeze before

I just ended up getting the premixed asda one, probably not great, I only managed to get a little bit in tho because I haven't emptied the reservoir yet but after taking it for a drive with the heaters and fans on full I got back and the water was red, whereas the little bit of antifreeze I put in was blue....did it change somehow or is it likely there was already antifreeze in there? (only had the car a month)

Chances are, there was already some in there.

Best way.

Remove the bottom hose to radiator. Drain coolant (into a container, it's toxic). Replace hose. Fill up with water, bleed, run engine briefly, allow to cool, drain again, replace hose fill with anti-freeze mix, bleed, bleed, bleed. (It's a Punto, so it'll need a lot of bleeding.)

Lol nah it's definitely antifreeze, it just had a blue tint to it, I least I think it did, but seeing as the waters still red I'll just leave that in there

Last time I looked my ASDA had 2 types -- a clear one, which mixes with everything/anything and a Holts one which is blue.

The red ones and blue ones generally don't interact well with each other, so mixing/topping up is not a good idea.

Guys, just going to hog this thread. am thinking of changing the antifreeze in my 1.2 8v Punto this weekend as i bought the car a few months ago & have no idea if the coolant has ever been changed. How do i go about getting rid of any air pockets when i have the new coolant in. Oh & since i'll be draining the system what type/colour coolant should i use??

Any fresh coolant is always going to be better then old broken down or Water end off

Even cheap is better then nothing :)

I've had some success when bleeding to have the system upto max / radiator join line and starting the car with the bleed valve open

As thats when the air actually moving most (the horrible gurgling on startup)

Then backing down the drive (nose up) and it shifts the air best for me

I think SandB said he tried jacking the front up and it sometimes just dont clear it

Punto's are buggers sometimes...
