I've been driving my lovely new 500 for nearly a week now. My little size 3 feet are having a problem - I can only just reach the accelerator pedal with the tip of my toes, as it's a bit too high off the floor. Does anyone know if it's possible to extend the pedal using some kind of kit?

Like you I have size 3 feet and am 5' tall and at first I experienced exactly the same problem!

I've had my 500 since mid-September and have found the only solution is to wear the most chunky shoes I possess for driving - so they reach and spread a bit over the pedal!

Yes it's a pain to always have to change into something else when you get there but it works for me! And personally I wouldn't want to be messing with the accelerator pedal.

I've been changing into another pair of shoes too, but would prefer to lower the pedal in some way if it's possible to do so safely.

 SIZE 3?!?!?!?!

That's tiny lol

(Sorry, completely off topic, but last person I knew with size 3 feet was only 12 lol)

You can either
1. lower the pedal so it is nearer the floor - a metal fabricator can do that

or

2. raise the floor so it is nearer the pedal

I went for option 2:

Under the mat on the drivers side, I have fastened a piece of carpet to raise the floor so it is nearer the pedal(y)

<It works with my Size 4s anyway>

I hadn't thought of putting something thick on the floor - might try that - did you just plonk it down or have you attached it in some way?

But I think I'd still have to wear my chunky Kicker lace-ups as without their 2" heel, thick sole and rounded toe (hmmm how attractive they sound) my foot would have to be sort-of waving in the air to depress the pedal. Even now it occasionally slips off.

And before anyone asks, yes I was wearing these same lovely shoes when I test-drove the 500 in July as I'd just been walking the dog!

In a previous car I GLUED a strip of cardboard to the underside (right hand side) of the rubber mat (the bit where your right heel sits)

On this car I have used a staple gun from work and STAPLED a strip of carpet with non-slip underlay to the underside of the (non-slip) mat. I could prob have used glue or double sided tape or velcro or something.

There are sets of car mats available with a raised secction for where the heel tends to wear through the mat which will decrease the effective distance between floor and pedal.

Also you might consider just placing a couple of cheap universal fit mats under your original mat to raise the level.

Just make sure that they don't catch anywhere.

Sorted.

Do you want to borrow my shoes? (size 14) Then visit Fiat.co.uk search the accessories for a ski rack for when they're not being used.

Size 3? That's crazy!

I remember being size 11 when i was 12 years old, people still asked me to "act my age, not my shoe size" :)

At 5' tall size 3 is just right for me - good things/small packages etc!

Size 14 - are you serious? Forgive me but that is MAD!!

LOL! Thank you one and all for the suggestions, both practical and hilarious!

Size 3 isn't THAT freaky. Marks & Spencers sell them ...

"These aren't just any size 3 shoes... these are hand stitched, free-range leather shoes, polished by Philipino virgins with fairy gossamer spun by elves... these aren't just size 3 shoes, these are M&S shoes..."
