Thanks T - I'm still a little confused - my mechanic didn't mention having it callibrated can you tell me what that means pls? Can't my mechanic do that? Also is it easy to get hold of the part from a scrapyard and would Fiat be prepared to fit it? Thanks again this is all so confusing!

Im nor sure if we have a steering rack problem, but it sounds possible. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
My husband has an 03 punto 1.2 8 valve and the steering when you turn it left starts to shudder really badly, I notice the steering wheel shuddering as I am driving even in a straight line but hubby doesn't. We had the wheel alignment checked when something else got fixed on the car but the garage said it was ok. It feels like it is almost oversteering to the left...?? The steering also feels very light, alot lighter than my Multipla and even without the city button on the steering on the Punto doesn't feel right.

I don't use the city button...I can park without it!! Hubby can't even park properly with the city button on!!!:D

I do remember the steering column getting replaced under warranty, a common Punto fault which makes me think that its the same thing again. I'm sure it was a while ago now, three years possibly less. Usually parts replaced under warranty are for so many miles or a year?

Between our Punto and our Multipla its really costing a fortune to keep them on the road now. I try not to use the Fiat garage any more as the labour is way to much these days. Anyone any ideas whats going on with hubby's Punto?

I know this is a topic of much debate however.. Reading the FAQ about this suggests that some faults responsible for the power steering light coming on (electronic) can cause total loss of steering.

Would I be wrong to suggest that worst case scenario, even in complete electrical failure of the power steering system, that steering would still be possible as it is simply a mechanical system aided by a motor?

As i found in youtube, speedgear has two speed sensors primary pulley speed sensor to your left and the secondary pulley speed sensor to your right and in between near the secondary pulley there is a round 3 pin plug for temperature and pressure sensor of the box. Everything should be understand when you remove the passenger side front wheel and look towards the gearbox from there. However i need to find where the part 46817374 is on this speedgear box. Please support.
