Looking for advice... I'm having a fr*gging nightmare trying to get a new set of ignition / plug leads for my late runout model (95) Tipo 1.4 ieS.

For my car Fiat upgraded / modernised the 1.4 engine to give coilpack ignition etc, and replaced the older distributor arrangement. My earlier 94 silver car had the distributor and took a plug lead set with 5 leads (one from coil to dizzy) and the traditional brass connectors to the dizzy outlets. The lead set for the 95 (blue) coilpack car are 4 in number and have a pin-type connector to the coilpack.

Every s*dding muppet parts supplier I (or my mechanics) deal with insists on sending the older 5-lead type even when they have my reg no. (lazy and complacent and unreliable way of checking IMO) and I explain it is for a later coilpack car. My local supplier has tried and tried and nobody seems to do have one I want (one of his suppliers did send one but the monkey delivery driver damaged them... :bang:)

However digging around I am fairly confident that if I get a set of leads from a Mk1 Punto 1.4 GT turbo or even a 1.6 Sporting these should fit since both bottom ends are the Tipo engine and they are from the same era and apparently use the same widely-used coilpack. I think the late Uno 1.4 will also have the same leads but these were rare...

So... can anybody here confirm that I will have better luck sourcing a set of leads for these Puntos? As I said, I am fairly confident and if my autoelectrician receives the wrong leads today from his supplier I will probably get the Punto leads myself.

Thanks

John

So after double-checking directly with the motor factors and getting a printout that showed that what they were going to supply looked quite correct, lo and behold yesterday they delivered the same old incorrect parts despite me having to wait half a week for them because they were "special order".

I've now bought some ebay leads for a Punto 1.9 90HP which is basically the Tipo 1.6 engine with MPI but the coil pack is the same and the plugs will be in the same place so I must be optimistic (at least on ebay there is usually a photo to check against). They should arrive on Monday so we shall see then...

What a PITA, seriously.... :bang:

My ebay Punto 1.6 leads arrived yesterday - very quick service. I fitted them and they work well.

They are only cheap Motaquip parts but they are fine for my car - I am sure that in my situation if you can figure out for yourself an alternative car to order from then you can find the parts no problem, but in reality very few people in the trade can do this for you and they all rely on the same generic lookup databases, pictures etc.

I might have been better asking for parts for a Tipo 1.6 or a Tempra - the Tempra was listed for my new leads as well as the Punto (and Dedra). For some reason Fiat generally specified slightly upgraded parts and systems for the Tipo 1.6 compared to the 1.4 even though they are basicakky the same engine (and car). The same applied to the Tempra compared to the Tipo. I suppose it's about saving small amounts of money here or trying to add value there...

Anyway my next issue is a leaking heater matrix, ho hum..
