Hello everyone, I have started with the swap.
It all started when I hit a curb after understeering exiting a roundabout and decided to restore the engine after repairing the damage.
I started stripping the engine bay and removing everything broken, snapped the right lower suspension arm in half and bent the driveshaft.
Repaired that in a week and got the engine out.
At that moment I was looking for engines, mainly the 1.8 16v IE because it was a straight fit, but I really wasn't looking seriously to buy.
Until... I found this.
A guy in northern Spain was selling a Bravo HGT bit by bit. The offer I first saw was of both engines and gearboxes (one engine and gearbox are for spare parts) and when I asked he offered me the subframes and more parts for a good price, I couldn't resist but the trip was 1400km around and I didn't have the funds to make it. But suddenly, the guy offered to come drop everything at my hosue because he was going to Madrid and he could make it here to Murcia. It was truly a dream come true but not everything is happiness as it takes a lot of work to prepare the parts to make the swap happen.
It involves changing the engine as well as the front and rear subframe with rear disc brakes. I have already sold the old 1.4 to really nice Argentinian guy who used to race those engines.
In the meantime, I am hoarding a TON of info on parts compatibility and electronics, coming from the carb engine to this with an ECU and a handful of sensors is somewhat complicated but I am making progress step by step.
Any and all information or tip is welcome.
I will be posting the progress
Buenas tardes.
