Technical A friends Mk2b Punto service

Hi,

This weekend I'm servicing my friends mk2b Punto. Just a basic oil change and filter, but he want's me to look over it too.

Anything common I should look out for? and anything I should watch when doing the service?

A simple Google should tell you what to check for when doing a service, but off the top of my head check engine for leaks and check sump for rust( easily repaired for less then £10 ) major rust anywhere else like springs, arms etc and

Yeh I did search before posting, but a lot of the stuff is very dated, so thought I would ask fresh, to see what other issues might be out there.

I'll check the normal that I would any car, but was hoping for pointers to those things I should take an extra few minutes to check for the Punto.

make sure you get the right oil filter as theres 3 types
mann is best

I've got the parts from Eurocarparts, was only one listed they said...

Whats the differences? Size? fitting? Hopefully I have right one, as will be done on sunday and no motor factors open near me then :/

depending on chassis number often only 2 come up but last week my factor saw 3 for one i had in
i now keep all 3 in as its easier
small one
fat dumpy one
tall one


dont try interchanging or they have a propensity to empty the sump quickly once running and you wont be aware


been done it got the hat


ps eurocarparts unfortunately would not be my choice for a filter i would rather fit mann, done once done right

iguess its down to price if its cheap its more than likely made by will go wong from over in riceland, they is good at making fake stuff,

FWIW iwill carry on buying filters from the main agent for what they cost it aint worth the risk buying from interweb suppliers,

oh and dont use that engine flush as it can cause more problems than it can solve by washing crud round the cavities
leave engine flushes to the good garages schemer
