i would say it beats having the van inspired dash gearstick, but if it then leaves the dash the same, but with a few buttons tacked over it and an unreliable gearbox, i'm not sure it is.

The gearlever positioning is one of the best thing about Fiats. In these small cars the shift falls to hand perfectly.

Definitely! It's one of those things where you think "Why the heck aren't ALL cars like this?!?!??!" it really is fantastic and undoubtedly the best place for the gearlever

indeed

diet Abarth if you will - for girlies

when will the bring out the full fat high sugar high caffeine version Abarth 500 TC?

Yep. I think I'd be interested in an Abarth 500 TC. Tbh even the standard Abarth is a bit diet compared to what it should be.

Before FWD, sporty cars had short gearlevers on top of the transmission tunnel, not too different to the 500 position. People therefore percieved short sticks as sporty. With the Advent of FWD cars with very little tunnel, the manufactures kept the short "sporty" levers, but they now becames positioned down by the ankle, purely a fashion statement, rally/touring cars, have long, quickshifter levers that position the stick just to the side of the wheel, also similar to the 500. I.e. where it makes ergonomic sence. My Alfa 155 had a long stick so was close the wheel, but I heared of people shortning them to make them more sporty, must be a quicker be quicker change by at least 0.01 of a second:bang:, forgetting that the arm as moved from wheel to stick about 0.1 second longer and back again another 0.1 seconds.

I think the Position of the 500 knob is perfect (not too disimilar to my GT Junior which is angle back to give a very similar motion when changing gear - the junior is 10 times more statisfying to change as the stick goes directly into the box, no cables or other linkages to lessen the feel, but the 500 change is up there with any FWD or rear engined car)

Richard hardies has 2 of the 500 abarth cab 1 in the showroom in met grey with auto box tan leather zenons looks good and the other must be a customers car as its light grey with the same spec as the showroom model :p

Possibly not the right thread but LOL

So Abarth has a speedster and a sportscar planned :ROFLMAO:

This is such BS :ROFLMAO: Funny how a Lotus based sports car is going to somehow sell @ £12k and this KTM based version is 40-50k. What a joke and I genuinely pity anyone who believes this crapola.

The reality is, Abarth were developing a car, which they then stopped, but it's apparently all go for 2012. They are calling it a "Coupe", that's all they've said as far as i know, it's the press/media that start guessing what it's going to be based on and what it's going to look like and how much it's going to cost!

If Abarth sell an A500 for £25000 to £35000 (i.e. 695 Tributo) then i guess there is a chance it will be expensive, but as it will be made in higher numbers, it won't be extortionate! I guess it will be based on the A500, in the same way that the Renault wind is based on the Twingo (which i quite like btw!) In fact, i think the Abarth Coupe will be very similar to the wind indeed.

The reality is nothing like that. At best there were preliminary talks with Lotus. Nothing more than that. A lot of these journalists just make up stuff or hear a rumour and quote it as fact. This is just like how people claim that the 695 Tributo is made in Poland, then shipped to Turin, disassembled, repainted and then rebuilt. This is how rumours become widely believed to be facts. If you want to claim that Abarth were developing a car then show the proof.

Lotus aren't exactly having to beat people off to buy the Exige, Evora and Elise so I really don't see there being a market for an Abarth version.

No you misunderstand. Read what i put, i never mentioned Lotus, that was another Chinese whisper. It will undoubtedly be based on the A500 of course. And that is true about the 695 as well. I don't get my facts from car blogs or magazines as the sources are often unreliable or just made up entirely! As for the proof, well i did post the 5 year Fiat plan PDF a while ago, i don't think you read it properly...

Huh? 5 year plan? Here's Abarth's 5 year plan and there's no coupe, roadster, speedster, sportscar or anything other than the A500c, A500 and Abarth Punto Evo

As for the 695 being assembled in Mirafiori, you've also not shown any proof of this and tbh it makes no sense. Perhaps I'll ask when I'm there on Sunday

Autoexpress are notoriously reliable. On their information I place a deposit for a Ferrari 420 Dino back in 2006 and it's arriving next week :ROFLMAO:
