Hello all, I've tried searching for this with no luck so sorry if it's a repeat.
I've had my 1.2 Lounge a month now and the 500 logo on the boot handle is starting to flake. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what have you been able to do to sort it? I was thinking of just scrubbing the matt black paint off but have the same logo on the side rubbing strips and want them to match. I'm also worried that if I touch it up it'll show. Thanks.

Not something I've heard of before. I wouldn't worry about a perfect match with the side strips tbh, just try and get something near enough, or just replace the handle.

I must be being dumb but I thought the only 500 logo on the boot handle is a chrome one in "relief" (indented) rather than painted on?

I have the same problem on my '08 500. It seems to be fading away. Similarly to the OP I am tempted to touch it up.

Hi Lyndsey. Just had a look at you new Vinnie (I have commented before that it looks a babe - how you're enjoying it (y)). I have attached a pic of the boot lid you are referring to. I had a problem with peeling paint on the red ringed centre caps of my ex-Sport. Some of the guys on the 'other' Abarth forum have have small issues like this - but it was fixed by the dealer with a replacement cap. With a new car this shouldn't be happening. It's unlikely they would replace the handle of the boot lid but as previously suggested all they would do is touch the paint up.

Do you have a close up of the pealing paint ?

Hi you can see it in this pic. Yes I am enjoying the car very much, have had side rubbing strips fitted with chrome logo and as prev discussed front mud flaps. I'm waiting to book it in for the rear ones. I'll put some updated pics on soon. Think I might have a look in Halfords today for a matt touch up pen.

just had another idea. May pop into my local sign place and see if they could do a vinyl to fill the indent. Would stop it looking streaky or going outside the lines? Any sign writers out there that think this would work?

wow that's bad on a brand new car! Wonder if a touchup pen will work on chrome though? Vinyl should stick though

does everyone has it this way? mine is just chrome all the way, i don't have any black paint on it.

Personally for me - if I had a new car that was only 2 weeks old - I would ask the dealer to 'fix' it. The fact that the paint is pealing at this early stage shows that there was some issue with 'surface adhesion' before the paint was applied or the paint is sub-standard. Now, I would not be a picky individual and would tolerate a lot but I would ask before you go touching it up yourself. Maybe ask nicely when you're in getting the mudflaps fitted if it is a Fiat dealer.

My 2010 lounge has dark grey paint in the recessed part of the logo. That bit of the handle is just a cheap bit of chromed plastic anyway. If you know anyone who's into Airfix they'd soon have it sorted:)

I recall some folks have had problems with the chrome surface blistering & peeling, so I keep mine well waxed, and thankfully all is still well.

But if it's just 2 weeks old, why not take it back as multispoke suggests?

I think I'll talk to my sales lady, I feel I prob should of mentioned it sooner. I'm a bit of a wimp though. I'll build up the courage and call her on Mon I think.

Don't bother with sales, take it into the service department, take the person outside and show it to them, I doubt they'll be anything less than helpful :)
