Hello everyone - I am new here and just posted my send question here to you all - can I ask (a Fiat I purchased on a failed MOT) needs an inner CV boot. I have done some research and it appears I can either remover the front driveshaft to place a new one on, OR I can purchase a split CV boot that means that it can go on without having to remove the driveshaft itself.

I just wondered if any of you have done either before, and if so what you may recommend please? I have noticed that with the split CV boot, there are a couple of options for me out there, and again, it's a case of getting the correct one that seems to be the further issue.

Obviously this is less work.

It will get you an MOT, but the chances of it providing a lasting repair are slim. Grit will likely already have entered the joint, and unless you clean out all the old grease, regrease and fit a new one-piece boot, it won't be long before the joint wears excessively, and then the only option will be to replace the driveshaft, which will be quite a bit more expensive.

So if you're going to keep the car for any length of time, I'd suggest you do the job properly and remove the driveshaft and fit a one-piece boot.

Split boots are only for shady used car dealers needing an MOT to sell a car on, who don't care about the inevitable subsequent repair the next unsuspecting owner will be saddled with.

And if I were inspecting a used car pre-purchase, finding a split boot would be a huge red flag for me.

Agree with all the above! + if any others of ya out there have anything to do with the world of VW trikes then you'd know how often the dreaded split glue/ bolt together CV boot rears its ugly head! fails quickly, looks cheep and second hand 1 step up from a bodge!(n)😔
