Sorry Mercky, crappy day at work. Will edit later when not on phone
You're quite right about wiki, though happily in this case it's right. Annex 17 of this document has the particulate emission limits for petrol (Direct Ignition) engines and they're as Euro V
http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-cont...ZlnL2f8Qspk4!-1897320616?uri=CELEX:32008R0692
Diesel engines have been (significantly) tightened and there's an impact statement on the euro comission site that says Euro VI is mainly targeted at them, particularly in commercials.
However, as you can probably see, there's oodles of stuff in there so I wouldn't be surprised if there's something else FIAT are trying to get compliant with. It just seems they've potentially screwed it up.
I'm waiting for my new 500s and all these problems are seriously putting me off mines not the 1.2 it's the Ta 0.9 hope mine doesn't have these problems
So like a total div I've gone past the edit period. Should have written;
The mapping could be programmed to ignore any two stage clutch switch thingy when in reverse.
Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome and your comments on this.
I have been back to the dealer today, who are very supportive of the issue we are experiencing. We are thinking quite seriously of rejection the car on safety grounds. Twice this week my wife has found that this 'feature' has almost resulted in a accident. She has lost complete confidence in the car and the whole enjoyment of purchasing a new vehicle has drained away.![]()
The garage are getting back to Fiat to trying to get to the bottom of this and are treating this very seriously.
Super Uwe:- the problem is most noticeable when pulling off from a standstill, but if you are climbing hills from a slow start we also get a similar problem. It's as if the ECU mapping is all wrong. It drives completely different to the Euro 5 1.2.
jrkitching:- It's my understanding there is a two stage potentiometer that is fitted to the clutch pedal. Fiat are trying to educate a different driving style. You will find that you can virtually bring the clutch in from standstill without stalling the engine as bringing up the clutch increases the revs. Consequently when the clutch is fully in revs are needed and this catches the driver out so you have a kind of dead spot before realising you need to press the accelerator. Its hard to describe so I hope that make some sense.
I can't believe you can spend £12K on a new car in this day and age and have a vehicle that is not fit for purpose.![]()
Regards
I wonder if it might help having a brand new thread/sticky so that all you people suffering from this problem can see how many others are in the same boat.

Can I also suggest that anyone with this problem contacts Fiat Care on 0080034280000 and gets a case number registered. We did this immediately we found the defect and Fiat are then obliged to look into it. So far they are claiming the car is operating as designed and I have re-emphasised to them on numerous occasions that it's the design that is the problem. Fiat will not do anything until they receive enough complaints, only then will they pass the issue onto Bosh who design the management hardware and software to investigate. This will take some time so the more cases registered the better. I am not hopeful that this problem will be addressed in any reasonable time period by Fiat.
The 1.2 8v is already Euro 6 compatible even in euro V form......
Interesting- did FIAT tell you this? I would have thought that Bosch design/build the management hardware but the mapping part (which sounds like a culprit) would have been FIATs job.
This assumes of course that the management hardware hasn't changed.
The problem is that if you make a complaint with the wrong information........
I was talking to someone on facebook who works in a Fiat stealership and they said that if you leave the seatbelt unplugged while you're puling away in the morning or reversing out of your drive that it flattens the battery and this is what causes S&S issues.
Dealers don't always know what they're on about.
There is obviously an issue here, but it needs to be approached properly.
