Ah ok

When i fit the locking tools the belts teeth and the cam sprocket teeth do t mesh they sit on top

Do i go clockwise 0.5 tooth or 1.5 toth

I can try both

Just pull it up and sit it on the teeth

It will be slack

You can see it's not tight in photo one

Mark it with some tip X or similar

Turn it back one tooth

Then put the locking tool back, the belt should be tight photo two

Wish I took a video, I didn't realise it was much harder to explain than it is to do it at the time

Having issues posting at the moment, internet very slow

Tried 6 times now and each time after turning it by hand twice the locking kit fits but still no attempt to fire up

So turning by hand the locking kit fits

And the cut out is at the top 1a

Do you have a compression tester ?
Have you hear the engine run before taking the head off?

did you check the basics, like do you have spark and are the injectors firing (and do you have fuel pressure).

Yeh i have a good spark and fuel and yeh i have a compression tester

I haven't heard it running but have had the head off and nothing unexpected in there

Pistons tops and bores all normal

But you would expect some sort of noise when trying to start it

Correct

Even with the head gasket gone, it should fire and idle on two cylinders

What's the rpm on a scantool showing

I guess it an active without a rev counter

Sounds very low

Is the battery flat, every one I test is normally around 300, which isn't going to help

Are the plugs getting wet

What's there gap

Do you have another panda ?
Ive not measured compression yet and there is a smell of petrol but will check the plugs

Let's get the compression done

If it's around 200psi at 300rpm we can put the timing to bed and move on

If you can turn the engine over and the locking tools fit and the cam notch is at the top, it's unlikely to be a problem

Before posting the fiat drawing of the cam tool in position I did do an image search and there was one site with the cam being timed 180ish degrees out

Are you sure the coil pack connectors from the ECU are on the right way round, at least on some cars they are long enough to plug in backwards

Rechecked the sparks, plugs , leads and fuel pressure and took out injector bar and all firing as the should

Yeh notch 1a is always up and mark on cam sprocket is towards the left where a timing mark use to on previous models

Mes says 170rpm when cranking
Going back to this

Normal its over 300

We are 50% down, probably means we have good compression

If you have another panda, swap the batteries or try jump leads

If the cars been running a tooth out, you will probably have to reset the adaptive memory using a scantool

You have got the valve cover back on and the cam sensor connected
