Panda (Classic) 1989 Fiat Panda 1000S New Zealand

Introduction

Hi all,

Got told to up load my pics to here,

So here we go.

Got this last weekend as a fuel saver run about car.

Bought it because my first car was a Fiat Uno 60s, I wanted another but none were available then I saw this!

Thanks! Can't wait to do something with them. Spigot rings have been purchased!

It didn't look like it removed at all.. What do I take off to replace the O ring?

Sorry for the ignorance. :D

Nothing to apologise for. If you remove the steel tube you will find the 'O' ring on the end. The tube is a push fit into the back of the water pump housing and is only held on to the block by one m6 bolt, it screws into the front of the block roughly in line with cyl. no. 3.

Make sure you grease the 'O' ring when refitting.

Plans have changed. I have some new wheels to re furb. A bit more panda friendly being 5.5 +35et.
They need a bit of work. Have already ordered hub rings / spigot rings for them. View attachment 137402

They are cheviot wheels.

:)

Also a crappy photo chop

Thoughts?

I like the wheels but not the very low chop. Maybe 30mm max I'd say.

I know the first alloys were causing problems but they were so cool.

Yeah I know I liked them a lot too.

But would have cost me another $90 per wheel plus trying to find shank bolts that fit... well yeah.

I haven't lowered the car yet. But it'll happen.

I have enough lows in my project car ...

:)

Picked up the wheels last night. :)

Test fitted one on the front and one on the back..

The back was perfect, front quite pokey.. I think they are 6 or 6.5 and I’ll be running 175/50r13 tyres when I get some.

Has anyone else found their front hubs to have the smallest centre locating ring (as in doesn’t stick out far? Is this just a Fiat panda thing? or just my car that’s like that.

Also I find that the bolts stick into the hub a bit much.. Maybe I’ll have to shorten the thread on them?

Any help appreciated!

Finally got around to fitting a pair of tyres. I went with 165/65/13. They look good and I'll probably get the same for the front as well. ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1425892815.825978.jpg

Will probably order some PI springs soon.

I've finally found out what the juttering sound is. It's the front hubs/ bearings. When you tap or bump it it rattles. Anyone know if that's a bearing or hub?

Thanks as always.

Wheels look great

Pi springs seem good to me too, had them on for a while now, no issues & work well.
front hub & bearing is all one assembly anyway, could also be bottom balljoint if you're getting a rattle there though.

Oh cool, the other option was modifying some Suzuki swift late model adjustable suspension. But with one project car I'll keep it simple for now.

Where do you recommend I buy the hub from? I know there are a lot on eBay. They all the same?

Also yeah you might be right. Will look into getting a new balls for front left and right.

Picked up my friends guard roller last night so sometime this week I'll roll th guards. Will save the rub from all the speed bumps around my house.

:)

Well I've just done both bearings and hub carrier/ balljoint assemblies. Ordered 3 bearings from 3 different suppliers and one never did get here, one very slow, and this was the best of the three:

use a German outfit for some suspension stuff, very good indeed and have some difficult to get bits (rear arms for example). Hub carriers with balljoint:

Obviously not exactly local for you

, depends what shipping looks like and how available stuff is there.

Trailing arms are cheaper from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281152716508?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

just have to request a total for postage from the seller to complete purchase. I've had two pairs already and always arrive ok.
Cheaper?

...actually if you're doing the front suspension might as well have a pair of these too:

Cool thanks for all the help guys.

When I replaced the shocks last year I got them as this package. ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1426015064.832879.jpg
So have done the arms and the ball joints..

Will have to get the hub/ bearing kits. And that other arm? Is it.

:)

May as well do it all in one go.

My warrant is coming up soon so see what I fail on. Similar to MOT?

Cheers again :)

Passed my WOF. Had to get a headlight replaced and the rear breaks tightened.

Got tires for the fronts now. So running the wheels all round. Ran little 5mm spacers on front to clear the breaks.

ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1427571028.062324.jpg

They poke a fair bit. So will get the Monroe magic camber bolts for the front. Then use the PI springs to lower it. Should fit just right.

ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1427571097.726903.jpg

Also got another second hand seat for the front. It was a passenger side but used it on the drivers side and made it work.

Now no more falling through the broken foam!

I had to roll my guards a wee bit to save the tires.

Here's a question. Last night, I broke my second clutch cable since I've owned my car. This one hasn't even been in there long.

Is this a common occurrence?

Secondly has anyone had trouble with rust weakening the fire wall?
When fitting the replacement cable I had last night. The white plastic stopper got sucked right through. Rendering the clutch cable useless.

We fixed this by cutting a square of plywood and drilling a small hole in the middle so only the cable could get through.

Here's a pic of the clutch hole in the firewall that's broken. ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1434223651.643892.jpg
